UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRIEDRICH HAOKE, OF DE SOTO, MISSOURI.
PLOW-HAN D LE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,133, dated June 6, 1882. Application filed March 28, 1882. (Model) To all zchom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH HAOKE, of De Soto, Jefferson county, Missouri, have inwhich the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The improvement in this case consists of the handles of a plow made in two parts and constructed with an adjusting-splice just below the handle ends, the objects of which are to readily adjust the handles to suit short or tall plowmen and to enable the parts to be replaced more cheaply when broken than they can be when the handles are made in one piece, as commonly made, all as hereinafter described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of referenceindicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is aside elevation of a plow-handle constructed according to myinvention. Fig- 2 is a plan view of a pair of handles so'con structed, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the brackets employed in splicing the two parts of the handles.
Arepresents the part of the handle attached to the plow. B represents the part which the plowman holds. For my improved construction the parts A are to be a little lower than common in the ascending incline from the plow, to suit the shortest men. The parts A and B together are as much longer than the ordinary handles as will enable them to overlap each other, as shown in Fig. 1, and the said overlapping parts are connected by the bracketto shift said partsB up and down to vary their a height to suit the height of diiferent persons, thus adapting the plow to men of different stature and making it as convenient for one as another, besides enabling any one part to be replaced, when broken, more cheaply, because more simple, than if made in the common and more complex form. I prefer to place the two bracket-standards of each joint on opposite sides of the parts A B; but this is not essential.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with the parts A and B of a plow-handle, of the perforated standards 0, bolted respectively to the said parts, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the partsA B of a plow-handle. of the standards 0, provided with the flanges E and the perforations G, and the bolts D F, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
v FRIEDRICH HAOKE.
