Description
' 1. F.' VU-GT.
Attaching Bucket-Ears! N0'.154,93]. Patented Sept.8,1874.
WITNESSES I ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUS F VOGT, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN ATTACHING BUCKET-EARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,931, dated September 8, 1874; application filed- March 21, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, JULIUS F. VOGT, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bail Ears for Buckets, of which the following is a specification:
The bail-ears of well-buckets are generally short-lived, and liable to come off if not broken, and cause trouble, which is known only to those who live in the country.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical section of a bucket, showin g the improved ear attached, the section being taken on the line as as. Fig. 2 is an out-' side view of the same, showing also the upper hoop of the bucket.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the bucket. B is the ear. made with the ordinary bail-eye 0, below which it is forked, or has two wings, which This ear is,
straddle the stave, as seen in Fig. 1, in which position it is fastened by a single rivet beneath the upper hoop. D D are the wings. E is the rivet, and F is the upper hoop. This ear, it will be seen, is directly on the top of the bucket-stave, and allows the bail to be connected in such a manner that the bucket dips, when lowered to the water, with greater facility than when attached by the ordinary ears. This car is, moreover, much less liable to be broken or to become detached than the common ear.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with body A and hoop F, of the bail-ear, having two flanges, D D, extending below saidhoop, and a single fastening-rivet, E, as shown and described. I
. JULIUS F. VOGT. Witnesses:
