Description
Feb. 19, 1952 J. D. NOBLE PROTECTIVE HAT CONTAINER Filed July 24, 1951 Patented Feb. 19, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,586,700 PROTECTIVE HAT CONTAINER John D. Noble, Kermit,'Tex. Application July 24, 1951, Serial No. 238,288
1 Claim. 1
My invention relates to a container which is adapted to storing or holding a hat, and in protecting said hat while in the container from dust and dirt from without, and also protecting the hat from being crushed or damaged, or losing shape while in the container.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a container constructed of plastic or other suitable material of rigid texture built to conform with the general overall shape of the hat for which it will contain and made with suflicient strength to protect a hat from being crushed when this invention is itself packed or placed within another container such as a suitcase or a trunk.
Another object of the invention is to provide a container to hold a hat firmly in place thereby preventing damage to said hat from frictional contact with inside of the container, and also to provide a container which will be easily openable or closeable, and when closed will be dustproof and moisture-proof.
With the foregoing objects stated above the invention will now be described in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top external view showing my invention in the cap or visor type version of the protective hat container.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a side view of my invention in the cap or visor type hat container version.
Figure 4 is a side View of my invention in the brim type hat container version.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 55 of Figure 6.
Figure 6 is a top view of Figure 4.
Figure 7 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the locking devise on my invention.
Figure 8 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view showing the joining of the two sections of my invention taken at one of the locking points pictured in Figure '7.
Figure 9 is a sectional view taken on the line 55 of Figure 6 in the pin cushion or womens hat container version.
With more particular reference to the drawings, Ill designates the top section of the container and II the bottom section. Sections l0 fitted together. Section I0 fits into H and makes contact at [5 which is a gasket of rubber or felt or other suitable material encircling the inside of II' and shown enlarged in Figure 8. The edge of 10 will be pressed against M to form a dustproof and moistureproof container by [5, one of several knobs on the internal side of H, fitting into I6 an L-shaped indentation formed in In as shown enlarged in Figure 7. A twist of I0 in the opposite direction from II when so joined will lock l5 and [6, or will unlock the sections when said twist is reversed. The con- 2 nection and locking system just explained is the same in all versions of my invention.
Figures 1, 2, and 3 are views of my invention adapted to contain a hat of the stiff visor type outlined as 26. Hat 20 resting at point 24 is held in place at visor 23 by block 12, which is attached to 10 by glue or other adhesive material, and by block I3 similarly fashioned as l2 but to section II. Blocks l2 and I3 and subsequently described block I! are composed of sponge rubber or other suitable material.
The brim type hat container shown in Figures 4, 5 and 6 is a modified version of my invention consisting of top section 25 in the form of a central dome with a surrounding flange so as to conform to hat 22 with brim 21. This type hat is held in place by blocks I! which hold hat 22 by its brim 2| firmly against the internal surface of 26 the bottom section modified to fit top 25 as I! fits H).
A variation of the brim type hat container is seen in Figure 9. This version is used when it is desired to hold hat 2'! in place by means of hat pins 19 rather than by blocks which are not shown, nor intended to be incorporated in this version. Hat 2! is held secure by pins l9 being inserted through hat 21 and thence into a soft sponge rubber, or like penetrable substance, semispherical form 18 attached by adhesion to the internal center of 26. This variation of the brim type hat container is to be used primarily for womens hats which often times do not have uniform or adequate brims to be held as a hat in Figure 5 is held.
What I claim is:
A plastic cap container comprising a rigid substantially circular base portion having upright walls and a rigid cover therefor having walls telescoping within the walls of the base and removably locked thereto, a sealing gasket positioned between the free edge of the walls of the cover and the base, a resilient outwardly inclined visor supporting block secured to the inner surface of the base, and a resilient block secured to the inner surface of the cover and projecting toward the free end of the first named block and cooperating therewith to clamp therebetween the visor of a cap adapted to be contained within the container.
