CAP ATTACHED PENCIL HOLDER Charles Clifton Vaughn, Okmulgee, Okla.
Application August 28, 1946, Serial No. 693,439
2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a cap band and pencil holder and has for its primary object to aflix to a cap such as are used by the military, police, and chauffeurs a permanent indica which may readily be visible.
Another object is to insure that the band will at all times remain bright and untarnished, thus relieving the user of the necessity of polishing and cleaning the band.
This above and other objects may be attained by employing this invention which embodies among its features a relatively long narrow strip of stainless steel, said strip having a button receiving opening adjacent each end, and identify-' ing indicia midway between opposite ends of the strip.
Other features include a pencil receiving clip adjacent one end of the band and indicia in the form of a cut-out or stencil with a strip of a colored material lying there behind to render the indicia visible.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a band embodying the features of this invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view illustrating the band bent in conformity with the cap band to which it is to be attached.
Figure 3 is a side view of a cap showing this improved band in place thereon.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view through a cap and the band showing the manner in which the color strip is employed.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the color strip.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary elevational view looking at the left hand portion of Figure 2 from right to left and showing what is a front view of a pencil held in the clip.
Referring to the drawings in detail this improved cap band designated generally I0 comprises a relatively long narrow strip of stainless steel ll provided adjacent opposite ends with openings it through which the shanks of attaching buttons are adapted to extend. Formed adjacent one end of the strip I l is an upstanding ear I3 which is adapted to be rolled as at M to form a sleeve into which a pencil or the like H and the head encircling band of the cap immediately behind the openings 15. It is obvious that while the strip I6 is preferably red in color as indicated in Figure 5, any other suitable color may be employed which will render the cut-out l5 visible through the strip II. It is also obvious that the strip 16 may carry a coating of a luminous substance or that a luminous substance may be incorporated therein so that the indicia will be visible in the dark.
In use the band In is applied to the cap by bowing the strip II as suggested in Figures 3 and 4 so that the button receiving openings [2 engage the conventional buttons ll of a cap designated generally I8, with the flexible strip l6 lying between the head band of the cap and strip ll directly behind the indicia [5. Owing to the fact that the strip II is formed of stainless steel it will be obvious that it will remain clean and bright at all times and any tarnishing thereof will be avoided. Also by reason of contrast of the color strip IS with the color of the material of the cap I8 and the strip II, the indicia l5 will readily be visible.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is:
1. A cap band and pencil holder comprising a relatively long narrow strip of stainless steel, said strip having a button receiving opening adjacent each end, a resilient pencil receiving sleeve comprising a laterally extending ear integral with said strip and substantially cylindrical in form and adjacent one end of the strip, and the axis of the sleeve lying parallel with the axis of the strip.
2. For use with a military type cap having a relatively stiff head encircling band and a crown projecting outwardly from the upper edge of said band, a cap band adapted to extend around the front of the head encircling band comprising a relatively long narrow strip of stainless steel having a button receiving opening near each end, and a resilient pencil receiving sleeve formed integral with the strip adjacent one end thereof, the axis of said sleeve lying parallel with the axis of the strip.
