Application June 17, 1948,. Serial"No. 33',511
2 Claims. 273-138) still position will identify a particular participant of the game .for efiecting an award which functions in a final score for the winning of the said ame.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a device of this character, wherein the construction is novel and unique, and it is of .a kind that any ordinary bottle may be used which will be held convenient for the spinning thereof without-displacement with respect to the fixed pivotal point upon a support, such for example, as a table-top or the like, and the body of such bottle having bearing contact with the pivotal mount thereof, thus minimizing undue friction with resultant spinning operation free of friction resistance.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the spinning member eiiects a holder for awards which are in this instance of tape-form carrying indicia indicative of the award to be delivered from the mouth end of the member, and signifying the award to a person identified by the member when coming to a standstill with its pointer end directed to that person, being the winner of the award, any number of persons, either young or older, being able to take part in such game with resultant interest, amusement and entertainment to each and all, even those observing and not taking part or active in the game, the players being allocated about the playing field traversed by the spinning member.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efiicient in operation, strong, durable, neat in appearance, assuring amusement and entertainment, eliminating a, special game board set-up as the said device itself is the field of play and a carrier for the awards, and also is inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction,
combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the. preferred and modified forms of embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2: isa vertical longitudinal. sectional view thereof.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary vertical longitudinal sectional view of a slight modification of the invention.
Similar reference characters indicate correspending parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device constituting the present invention in its entirety is designated generally at A, which comprises a base. or bed H3, in this instance of circular contour, preferably made from wood or any other suitable material, yet it may be otherwise shaped to create a proper foundation. Rising centrally from the base or bed H3 in a vertical direction is a pivot pintle, stud or the like ll, it being made fast in such base or bed in any desirable manner.
Horizontally arranged above the pintle, stud or the like H is a bottle-shaped hollow body member 1 2, which may be any ordinary glass bottle having an outwardly tapered open mouth end I3, which is closed inany suitable manner,
as by a. closure l4, it being in this instance a cork stopper, metal can or other closing element. Firmly embracing frictionally the member I 2 externally thereof at a point midway of its length is a clamping collar, band or the like 15, which firmly holds such member for a spinning operation thereof.
Formed with the collar, band or the like It or joined therewith, is a bearing hub, sleeve or the like l6, which telescopes over the pivot spindle, stud or the like H for the spinning mounting of the body member l2. The hub, sleeve or the like It opens through the band, collar or the like I 5, so that such pintle, stud or the like H at its rounded tapered end I] will make direct contact with the member I2 during spinning operation of the same when functioning as a game device and in this manner reducing friction to assure free spinning activity of the said member.
The closure M has provided therein a slit or opening 18 which communicates with the 111- terior of the member l2 and without the same, while introduced into the said member is a length of tape l9 which has its outermost portion trained or threaded through the slit or opening l8 to be pulled upon for the exposure of a determined portion thereof for exhibiting indicia thereon, as exampled at 20, indicative of an award to a particular participant in the playing of game through the use of the device, one game to be played being that entitled spinning the bottle. The closure end l3 having the closure I4 is the pointer of this member |2 for identifying a participant as a player of the game after the spinning of the member when such member l2 comes to a standstill for an award by the tape l9 functioning in scoring for the winning of the game. This tape I9 is extracted when the member reaches a standstill position, that is to say a portion of said tape, by a person through identification by the pointer of such member directed thereto, and the indicia present on this portion indicates the award had by such person for scoring purposes in the playing of the game solely through the use of the spinning device hereinbefore described and constituting the present invention.
In Figure 3 of the drawing there is shown a slight modification of the invention, wherein the body of the member 2|, only a portion thereof being shown, has built therein an inset bearing socket 22 for receiving the pivot pintle, stud or the like 23, so that the member 2| can spin, this being effected by hand in the playing of the game.
The players of the game are allocated around or about the device A and by hand spinning of the said device the said game progresses until a final scoring is had by a participant of the game having the winning award identified by the tape I! at that portion identified by the indicia thereon as may be acquired from the member |2 or 2|, the latter being transparent or not in kind.
Now, it is contemplated in lieu of the tape Hi, there may be substituted coupons, tokens or other like means for identifying the award, and each may be acquired from without the member |2 or 2| from a point of deposit on the winning and inserted within such member |2 or 2| which will constitute a receiver therefor, the means after being acquired as an award will be inserted into the member l2 or 2| through its mouth end. In other words the member l2 or 2| can function as a dispenser or receiver for the awards and additionally serves as an indicator to identify a person to be the winner of an award.
The rules and regulations for the playing of a game are determined by the participants thereof prior to the starting of such game, the rules and regulations being no part of the present invention.
It is of course understood that changes, variations and modifications may be made in the invention, as come properly within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the said invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
It is thought that the construction and manner of operation of the invention will be clearly understood from the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawing, and therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted for the sake of brevity.
What is claimed is:
1. A game device of the kind described, comprising: a rotatably supported horizontally arranged elongated holloW-body having a reduced outwardly tapered open end effecting a pointer for containing a length of indicia carrying tape adapted to be ejected through the open end, and a base having a pivot staff for whirlingly supporting the body in a plane substantially parallel with the base, and means within the tapered open end of the body for flattening the tape when pulling the latter outwardly from the body through the said pointer.
2. A game device of the kind described, comprising: a rotatable horizontally arranged elongated hollow-body having a reduced outwardly tapered open end effecting a pointer for containing a length of indicia carrying tape adapted to be ejected through the open end, a base having a pivot connection with the body for whirlingly supporting it on the base, means within the tapered end of the body for flattening the tape when pulled outwardly from the pointer, and means interfitting the pivot and body together.
