MATERNITY GARTER BELT Pauline E. Rosenblatt, Cleveland, Ohio Application August 3, 1949, Serial No. 108,395
3 Claims. 1
This invention relates in general to new and useful improvements in garment supporters and, more particularly, to maternity garter belts constructed to support wearing apparel, such as hose, without discomfort to a prospective mother.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a maternity garter belt embodying a wide, elongated strip of elastic having its biascut opposite ends secured to the converging side portions of a trapezoidally shaped back supporting shield member and its central portion reinforced by a short elastic strip secured to such central portion adjacent to the lower edge thereof, the belt carrying front and rear elastic hose supporting members secured to the opposite ends of the reinforced central portion of the elongated elastic strip and the lower corners of the trapezoidally shaped back supporting shield member.
The maternity garter belt which when worn follows the back of the waistline of a wearer, slopes down over the hips on slanting lines and then extends with slight lifting action under the abdomen, to effect in addition to the support of a pair of hose, sacroiliac and abdominal support without discomfort to the wearer.
Another object of the invention, therefore, is the provision of a maternity belt embodying a substantially trapezoidally-shaped, pliable, backsupporting shield arranged to extend in the sacroiliac region of a person and a reinforced front supporting portion arranged to extend below the abdomen or such person.
In addition, the invention has certain other marked superiorities which radically distinguish it from presently known structures. These improvements or superiorities, embodying certain novel features of construction, are clearly set forth in the following specification and the appended claims; and a preferred form of embodiment of the invention is hereinafter shown with reference to the accompanying drawing forming part of the specification.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front perspective view of the maternity garter belt shown applied to a female figure;
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the maternity garter belt shown applied to a female figure;
Fig. 3 is a perspective rear view of the maternity garter belt;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view on line l-l of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view on line 5-5 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional view on line 6-6 of Fig. 3.
Referring more in detail to the exemplified form of the invention shown in the drawing, the maternity garter belt shown therein embodies a belt portion 2 comprising an elongated wide strip 3 of elastic which forms a loop by securing the opposite end portions 5 and 6 of strip 3 .to the top portion 1 of a quadrilaterally-shaped shield or back-supporting member 8 having parallel top and bottom edges, of which the top edge is the shorter one, and side edges of equal length inclined toward each other to meet the corresponding ends of the shorter top edge. The opposite end portions 5 and 6 of strip 3 are attached to shield member 8 at the sides 9 thereof to exert an upward and lateral pull on the shield member. Belt portion 2 of the maternity garter belt includes at its central front portion, midway between the opposite end portions 5 and 6 of strip 3, a reinforced area l8, reinforced by a narrow strip of elastic I l which is sewn to the inside face l2 of strip 3 adjacent to the lower edge [l3 thereof by extensible stitch lines Hi.
The thus constructed belt portion 2 of the maternity garter belt has suspended from its front portion a pair of short elastic hose attaching members l5 provided at their outer ends with hose attaching clips 16 of customary construction. These hose attaching members are ar-- ranged at the opposite ends of narrow elastic strip II and secured to belt portion 3 by inserting these members between the two elastic strips 3 and H.
The rear part of belt portion 3 that is the shield or back supporting member 8 has suspended therefrom a pair of elastic hose attaching members I! which are substantially longer than members 15 and provided at their outer ends with hose attaching clips I3 constructed similar to clips l6. Elastic hose attaching members I! are extended from the lower corner (9 of the quadrilaterally-shaped shield or back supporting member 8 which corners have been cut off to form a short diagonal edge to extend members I'l preferably cut on a slant or bias substantially diagonal with respect to the shield member, which is bound by tape 20.
A maternity hose supporter of the type described which when worn is seated on the hips of the wearer and provides a back support for the sacroiliac region, extends below the abdomen of the wearer with a slight upward lift for the abdomen, an action effected by the slight upshaped shield member and the elastically reinforced lower front edge portion of the wide elastic strip.
Having thus described my invention, What I claims is:
1. In a maternity garter belt an elongated strip of elastic, a, quadrilaterally-shaped, pliable backsupporting shield having parallel top and bottom edges of different lengths, the top edge being shorter than the bottom edge, and side edges of equallength-inclined toward each other to meet the corresponding ends of the top edge, said strip of elastic secured with its ends to portions of said side edges adjacent to said top edge, short elastic hose supporting members parallelly ex-' tended in laterally spaced relation from the central portion of said elongated strip of elastic, and
elastic hose supporting members of substantial length extended in divergin relation with respect ing shield having parallel top and bottom edges to each other from diagonally arranged short" corner portions of the longer bottom edge of said back-supporting shield; V V
2. In a maternity garter belt an elongated strip of elastic, a quadrilaterallyeshaped, pliable bacl-z= supporting-shield having parallel top and bottom edges of different'l'engths, the top edge being shorter than the bottom edge, and side edges of equal length inclined toward each other to meet the corresponding .ends of the top edge, said strip ofitelasticusecured. with its ends to said side edges adjacent to said top: edge; a short elastic rein forcing stripnarrower thansaid elongated strip ofelastic secured to the lower portion'of the centralarea ofrsaidfirst strip, short, elastic hose supporting members parallelly extended from and side edges inclined toward each other to meet the corresponding ends of the'top edge, said elongated strip being attached with its ends to the upper portions of said side edges, short elastic hose-supporting members extended downwardly from :the ends of the reinforced portion of said elongated strip of elastic, and elastic hose-supportingmembers of substantial length extended in diverging-relation with respect to eachother from diagonally arranged short corner portions of thebottom edgeof said back-supporting shield.
