UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH A. LOWE, OF GAINESVILLE, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FOURTH TO ABNER E. SMITH, OF SAME PLACE.
BACK-BAND BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 256,805, dated April 18, 1882.
Application filed March 52, 1882. (ModeL) To all whom tt may concern Beitknown that I, JosErH ALFRED LOWE, a citizen of the United States, resident at Gainesville, in the county of Cooke and State ot'Texas, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Back-Band Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the IO annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures ofreference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a side view of my device. Fig. 2 is a verti- I5 cal section, and Fig. 3 is a top view of the upper bar.
This invention has relation to buckles designed to connectthe back-band and belly-band of harness; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the middle bar having an outwardly-projecting stud, the upper bar parallel to the middle bar and having an under offset recess, the lower bar, also parallel to the middle bar, having an under offset recess, and a depending lug-hook and springsnap, all as hereinafter set forth, and especially pointed out in the claim appended.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the triple-bar buckle, having the end bars, a. a, connecting the middle bar, b, to the upper bar, 0, and lower bar, 01, the latter bars being parallel to the middle bar. A stud, c, projecting outwardly, is formed on themiddle bar at its central portion, and opposite this 5 stud are formed in the under portions of the upper and lower bars offset recesses g and h, which are designed to receive the connectingstrap k of the belly-band. The back-band L is passed under the upper and lower bars and over the middle bar, b, and is perforated at l to engage the stud e. The connecting-strap 7c of the belly-band is also perforated to engage the stud, the strap lying upon the outer face of the back-band, and being kept in position in its offset seats g and h thereby.
Extending downward from the raised or offset middle portion of the lower bar, d, is alug,
m, which is bent upward at its lower portion to form an outwardly-turned hook, N, and a broad spring, 8, is secured to the lug abovethe hook, and extends by its free end to the turned-up portion, closing the hook-recess, and forming a loop in which the trace T is designed to be carried. When the spring-snap s is pressed back the trace can be readily taken out of its loop- 5 5 bearin g.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, lS-
The back-band triple-bar buckle having the outwardlyprojecting stud e on its middle bar, the offset recesses g h in the under portions of its upper and lower bars, and the depending lug-hook formed on the lower bar, and having a closing spring-snap, s, forming a trace-bearing loom-substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses. f
JOSEPH ALFRED LOWE.
