This invention relates to improvements in adjustable holders for retaining articles of food, as

roasts and steaks, upon a suitable support, as a platter, during carving.

It is an improvement upon the meat carvin rack disclosed in my United States application for Letters Patent, Serial No. 710,552, filed November 18, 1946, and which matured in Patent 2,467,611, dated April 19, 1949. I

An important object of the present invention is the provision of means to elevate the main portions or link sections of the new holder above the upper face of the bottom of the platter but, at the same time, prevent accidental movement of the holder. This raises the holder and roast or steak ofi the bottom of the platter, so that neither interfere with meat juices, sauces or gravy upon the platter.

Another important object is to provide a holder for the purpose described, in which the link sections thereof may be constructed of sheet metal with an integral flange which serves the purpose heretofore detailed and, in addition, reinforce the link body.

A further important object is to provide such links with integral prongs, formed by stamping the link material and turned upwardly, these prongs being disposed along the sides of the links opposite their flanged sides, whereby the links may be of relatively narrow width, yet will be strong and not apt to bend nor break.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following detailed description of the invention, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this disclosure, and in which drawing:

Each section B and C comprises an elongated body portion 10 preferably flat, having a side edge II and a paralleling side edge 12 with preferably arcuate end edges [3. There is an upper face 14 and bottom face 15. The body portions are adapted to overlap at their arcuate end portions 16.

Being formed of the sheet metal it is of relatively limited thickness and is, preferably, of less height than the width of the body portion [0, and it is of less length than the body portion, as may be seen in Figure l, where its ends do not extend to the arcuate end edges 13. The pivot means D is, preferably, a suitable headed pivot pin 2|] extending through suitable aligning openings in the overlapping sections l6, of adjacent body portions it, so that each link section may be swung upon its pivot means D to take various positions with respect to its associated links. It will be noted that the terminal 3| of the slit 30 is not beyond halfway of the width of the body portion 10. I prefer to position the prongs or teeth thus formed intermediate the length of the link B or C, as at an equal distance from the end portions 16. I have discovered that a slit 30 positioned as described and illustrated does not weaken the sheet metal body portion so that it will collapse, particularly since the plural purpose flange ll aids in preventing such collapse.

The means E, positioned as described, permits a smaller roast or steak to be releasably retained thereby than if the prongs or teeth were centered,

or disposed adjacent the outer margin of the links, and there is a saving in wear upon the stamping machinery, since but one slit instead of two is required.
