Description
Jan. 30, 1940. E. c. BRULLHA DT SUPPORT FOR BEATERS OR MIXERS Filed May zo, 1939 j@ :a2 me/who@ Erneslrwlzani@ Patented Jan. 30, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,188,701 y SUPPORT FOR BEATERS R MIXERS Ernest C. Brullhardt, Stratford, N. J. Application May 20, 1939, Serial No. 274,841 v 6 claims. v, (c1. 248-295) The present invention'is a holder or support for egg'beaters or batter mixers.
Beaters of the type ordinarily lused ina home have a handle which is grasped by one hand of a the user for holding it imposition in a bowl or the like, while the other hand turns, or otherwise operates, means for performing the beating or mixing operation. In these circumstances, the beater frequently slips out of position, resulting 10- in the material being treated spilling out of the bowl, as well as other drawbacks occurring with which'the housewife and cook is familiar.
'Ih-e object of the present invention is the pro- Vision of a very simple and effective means by T which beaters, of the above mentioned kind, may be removably supported in position, during use orotherwise, and may be adjusted to different positions to accommodate beaters `of different sizes as well as to adjust the beater tovarious heights within the mixing bowl or container.
The invention also has as an object the provision of nov-el means by which the beater may be ready and releasably attached to it and held in a stable fixed operating position.
vFigure 3 is a perspective view of the upper endof the support or holder andl illustrating the beater attaching means;
Figure 4 is a sectional view through the beater attaching means and being taken substantially on line 4-4 of Figure l; and
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4 but showing a modication wherein the latch spring is omitted.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, Whe-rein like characters refer to similar and like parts throughout the several views, H represents the support or holder lwhich comprises a standard I0, preferably oi strip metal, having a laterally extending arm II at its upper end and a clamp I2 at its lower end, and which clamp is preferably adjustable on the standard I0. The clamp I2 may be of any suitable construction for detachably mounting the holder on a ledge, table With the above objects in view, the invention or other place where the beater may be conveniently used. The standard is of a length suflient to position the arm I I at the desired height to support a beater or mixer M (shown in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2) in its normal relation, when inuse, with a bowl B; and the arm II is of a length to extend over the bowl when the standard is secured in position.
For the purposes of present il1ustration,-thisv clamp I2 takes the form of a U-shaped bracket, one leg of which has a thumb screw I3 threaded therein and carrying a clamping head I4 disposed opposite the other leg of the clamp The closed end of the clamp is provided with a. slot l5 through which the standard Ill` extends and is held in vertically adjusted position by a thumb screw It. The'arm II is preferably provided by bending the upper end of the standard I0 laterally at right angles thereto, thereby forming a continuation of the standard I0.
The arm Il is provided at its outer end with a hook means forreleasably holding the beater or mixer M in position, and, since the arrnl II is. shown as a continuation of the standard I0, it is preferred to twist, as at I1, the'same so that the width` of the end portionof the arm Il,
' which engages the mixer M, will normally extend in a substantially vertical position, thus also giving rigidity to the arm.
Most hand beaters or mixers generally in home use comprise a frame having a vertically extending strip of metal f and are also, in some uses,v provided with two'spaced openings o in ther frame and which openings are invariably spaced a uniform distance apart.
' One means for releasably attaching the mixer M to the holder comprises an voffset keeper or strap- I8 at one side of the free end portion of the arm l l and which forms a vertical slot therewith to receive and removably retain thefmetal strip portion j of the mixer frame.A The keeper preferably is a vertical strap having one lateral end secured to the arm I I, as at I9, and its opposite end having an inturned end 20 spaced from the adjacent side face of the arm Il, for a distance equal to the thickness of a portion f of a beater Which may be moved therebetween.

`This keeper or strap I8 is, however, preferably y. and the keeper I8 is an integral part of the arm,
In order to frictionally latch the beater M in the keeper I8, a spring I8a is provided and it is preferred that the springy |8a be a at spring having one end d secured to the arm II adjacent the opening |812` formed by striking out of the keeper I8 and having its other end e extending through said opening |817I to lie in contact with or contiguous to the keeper I8 so that the frame portion of the beater M, inserted between the keeper i8 and the arm l l, will be moved by the spring |8a to the position shown in Fig. 4 whereby the parts I9 and 20 of the keeper maintain the beater against swinging movement. The end e of the spring is preferably curved. As shown in Fig. 5, the spring I8@ may be omitted and by moving and holding the beater by its handle so that the portion f of its frame will contact` the lip 20, the beater will be maintained against swinging or slipping on the bottom of the bowl B during operation.
The other means for releasably attaching the beater or mixer M to the holder H comprises two spaced and vertically 'aligned studs 2l and 22 horizontally projecting from the extremity of the arm ll, one of the projections, preferably the upper projection 2|, is provided with an `upturned end 23. Hence a beater M provided with suitable spaced openings o, may be supported by the holder H by insertingthe upturned ends 23 of the stud 2l into one of the openings o and;
by swinging or moving the beater to a vertical position, the other opening o may be brought to register with the stud 22 which can then be inserted thereinto, thus supporting the beater M against swinging movements when in operation. The beater or mixer M may be removed from the holder H by a reverse operation.
Having thus described the preferred form of the invention and the manner in which it is performed, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, and is susceptible to various structures and modifications within the scope of the appended claims.

In a support 'for mixers or beaters, a substantially horizontally extending arm adapted to overlie a mixing bowl or the like, an end portion of said arm having a relatively wide vertically extending surface, a substantially horizontally extending lug struck from said arm at the portion thereof having said vertically extending sur-f face and formed to provide a keeper offset from said vertically extending surface of the arm, the
free end of said keeper extending laterally of thei keeper to form an inwardly projecting lip spaced n from the said surface of the arm to permit thel insertion of a portion of a beater or mixer there-'- between, a spring carried bythe arm and extend'- f ing through the opening formed by the strikingout of said keeper and adapted to press, between; said lip and the closed end of said keeper, that' portion of the'beater inserted into the keeper, whereby the beater will be heldin position against swinging movement when fully inserted into the keeper.
4. In a support for beaters or. mixers, a supporting member having a pair of spaced laterally extending studs projecting from a surface of said member and adapted to extend into complemental` openings provided in the beater or mixer, one of said studs having an upwardly extending outer end. f
. 5. In a support for beaters or mixers, a supporting member having a surface normally lying` in a substantially vertical plane, a pair of spaced 1 substantially horizontally extending studs projecting from said surface and arranged in a substantially vertical plane and adapted-,to interengage with complemental openings formed in the beater or mixer, the 'uppermost of said rstuds having an upturned outer end. K,
6. In a support for beaters or mixers, a supporting member having a surface normally lying in a substantially vertical plane, a pair of spacedA- substantially horizontally extending studs projecting from said surface and arranged in a sub-j stantially vertical plane and adapted to inter' engage with complemental openings formed in the beater or mixer.
