Description

W. 0. COLEMAN, Sn.

OYSTER DISH.

Arrmouxon Hmm m10, e, 1909.

Patented Jan. 25, 1910.

UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEioE.

WILLIAM OGDEN COLEMAN, SR.,A OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.

OYSTER-DISH.

-When so served it is the usual practice to place the half shells containing the oysters on a layer ot' cracked ice which is laced in a plate. In practice the Water trom the melting of the ice rises in the plate and floods the oysters, and also causes an unattractive appearance of the dish.

The primary object of my invention is to provide a support for the ice upon which the oysters are placed so constructed and arranged above the bottom of the dish in which it is placed as to cause the water troni the melting ice to be drained therefrom and into the dish below, thus avoiding the objectionable conditions recited.

A further object of my invention is to combine with the device a convenient condiment holder in convenient position therein.

In the accompanying draivinfr illustrating the preferred embodiment otr my inventionFigure l is a perspective view of my improved device; Fig. 2 a view in cross section; Fig. 3 a top plan view of the ice supportingmember, and Fig. 4 a section taken on the line 4 4 of Fig.

5 designates a dish which may be of the ordinary forni or configuration, it being' necessary however that its central portion be of siitlicient depth to receive the water from the melting ice on which the oysters laced. 4

6 esignates a support seated in the plate and adapted to receive and support a bed of cracked ice and the oysters placed there- Specication of Letters Patent.

Application led December 6, 1909.

Patented Jail. 25, 1910. Serial No. 531,723.

on. The support G may be iliade from metal or porcelain. If made from metal it is provided witli a series of struck down openings T, the metal therefrom being bent down- 'ardly and forming legs or supports 8 by means of which the ice and support are raised above the bottom of the dish 5.

9 designates radial grooves wliieli act as channels to convey the water from the inelting ice to the edge of the ice support, whence it Hows into the space below Vthe saine. In the center of the support G there is provided a circular opening 1() adapted to receive a condiment holder 11.

lVhen it is desired to malte the entire device from china or eartlienware, the openin s through the `saine, the draining channe s or grooves therein and the supporting legs thereon may be made in the molding of the same.

I realize that the construction of the various details making up the device may be modified and changed without departing from the scope of my invention, and I do not wish to be understood as being limited to the precise forni shown and described. i

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A receptacle for .serving o vsters or other bivalves, comprising a plate, a holder adapted to receive a bed of ice and a layer ot' oysters thereon, said holder being provided with depending portions to support it above the.

bottoni of the )late said holder beingy also n u n n provided with a central openingr and radial draining channels. and a eondiinent holder adapted to be seated in said central opening, as set forth.

Iii testimony whereof I affix nl v signature in presence of tivo witnesses.
