3 Claims.
This invention relates generally to forms for precastlng concrete, and more particularly forms for precasting structural floor sections, the forms being' adapted for combination in order that several' floor sections may be simultaneously formed. Q
A primary object of this invention is to provide forms of this general character which are themselves comparatively light in weight and structurally designed with a view to providing for sufficient' rigidity and sturdiness in use, and which are adapted for use in multiple.
Another object of this invention is to provide forms of this character which are adapted for production of floor sections of various sizes.
A stillfurther object of this invention is to provide "forms for precasting concrete floor sections with medial and end reinforcing ribs.
Another object of this invention is to provide forms, in which the units are easily secured togetherfthe spacing of the portions of the forms used to: provide the above mentioned ribs being accomplished by integral depending wall portions.
And fa last object to be specifically mentioned this invention include a pallet 10 which-comprises a flat plate with an upstanding wall .12 'on one edge thereof, a hollow T-shaped member, generally represented by the numeral l4, extensions which are generally indicated by the numeral I6 and saddles l8, together with simple connecting rods 20.
If reference be had to Figures 1 and 2, it .will be noted that the pallet lllis adapted to'f-be placed in horizontal position on any suitable support and the other elements of this invention are placed on the top surface of this pallet, prior to the pouring of the concrete, it being understood that the pallet, as well as the other elements of this invention, are ordinarily used in'multiples and are adapted to be connected together as hereinafter described in detail.
These forms will ordinarily be constructed of metal, and in all cases will necessarily be rigid and sufficiently sturdy to withstand rough usage and the weight of the concrete poured .thereinto.
- The pallet l0, two of which are represented in pended claims, one embodiment of this invention being illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a material part of this application, and in which:
Figure l is a top plan view of a pallet, a portion of an adjoining pallet, a pair of hollow T-shaped forms and the linking means for securing the shank portions of the T-shaped forms together;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the structure shown in Figure l, and taken on the line 2-2 in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken on the line 3-3 in Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the T- shaped forms;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of one of the linking members used to connect two of the hollow T-shaped forms;
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the channel used to retain the members illustrated in Figure 5 on the members illustrated in Figure 4;
Figures 1 and 2, the second pallet being shown in part only, are fitted together in abutting relationship along the edges having the upstanding walls [2. It will be noted that each of the upstanding walls has a V-shaped section 22 extending along the full length of the wall. The T-shaped members I 4 have terminal depending wall portions 24 on the walls 26 thereof, and these depending portions 24 are provided with V- V shaped portions 28 which fit into the v-shaped walls 30 and preferably integral with similar flanges 34 on the lower edges of the vertical walls 36. The wall 3|] and the flange 32 provide supports for the extension members is which comprise vertical walls 38 and horizontal flanges 45 which are made to abut the walls 30 and flanges 32, respectively. To laterally support the vertical walls, a plurality of saddle members l8 are inserted, as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, into brackets 42- which will ordinarily be welded to the vertical wall -30 of the T-shaped members l4, these saddles comprising the chief attaching means for these extension members. To further support the extension members It and in order that various sizes of floor sections may be constructed using the same equipment, a plurality of rods 20 are provided for selective insertion in pairs of registering holes 44 in the vertical walls 30 of the T-shaped members and the holes 46 in the Vertical walls 33 of the extension members. The material used in constructing the pallets will preferably be thicker than the sheet material used in constructing the extension members I6 and the T-shaped members 14.
In using this invention the pallet ID or a plurality of pallets l0 placed together are supported on a level surface and the T-shaped members M and extension members [6 are secured together and placed on top of the pallet or pallets, as shown in Figure 1. When semi-liquid concrete is poured into these forms and allowed to harden .a concrete slab 48 of the form illustrated in Figure '7 will be formed,.it being understood that the said figure is a bottom view of the slab 48 so formed. These slabs will, ofcourse, be used in the construction of floors, but the method of incorporating the slabsin such buildings is'no part of this invention. It is however to be noted that various types of conduits and steelreinforcing of the slabs can be incorporated conveniently while using this invention. It will be further understood that various simple units such as border strips may be used in conjunction with the forms, as for example in the construction of a slab 50 of the shape illustrated in Figure 8 which may be constructed by dividing the T-shaped members by means of a simple elongated rectangular plank inserted within the T-member or T-members and interiorly abutting one of the vertical Walls 30 thereof. In this case only one half of the T-member or T-members will be used, and obviously one or more pallets or equivalent structure will be used in a manner similar to that depicted in the drawings and described above.
Though there has been described a particular embodiment of this invention, this application is not limited to this particular embodiment, but it is desired to include in the scope of this invention the construction. combination and arrangement of parts and portions substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A composite form for precast structural floor sections including a pair of flat rectangular pallets having each an upstanding wall at one edge and hollow T-shaped forms, said pallets being similar and rectangular and disposed so that said walls define opposite sides of a rectangular space, said T-shaped forms having depending walls defining the other sides of said space, said T-shaped forms being disposed in upwardly spaced superimposed relation to one of said pallets, with the shanks of the T-shaped forms aligned and connected together, the wall of the other pallet being disposed along an edge of said one pallet remote from the wall on said one pallet, whereby a floor section with the medial and end reinforcing ribs may be constructed.
2. A composite form for precast structural floor sections including a pair of flat rectangular pallets having each an upstanding wall at one edge and a pair of hollow T-shaped forms, said pallets being similar and rectangular and disposed so that said walls define opposite sides of the rectangular space, said T-shaped forms having depending walls defining the other sides of said space, said T-shaped forms being disposed in spaced superimposed relation to one of said pallets, the pallets being disposed so that the walls enclose two sides of said one pallet; and linking means to link the shank portions of said T-shaped forms, whereby a floor section with a medial and two end reinforcing ribs may be constructed.
3. Forms for precast structural floor sections including a fiat pallet and a pair of hollow T-shaped forms in spaced superimposed relation, and linking means to link the shank portions of said T-shaped forms, the said T-shaped forms having depending wall portions coextensive in length with and at the outer edges of the cross members thereof whereby said T-shaped forms and linking means are supported above said pallet.
