'3 Claims. (Cl. 25'131) This invention relates to forms for composition walls and relates more particularly to a device hereinafter referred to as an adapter clip which enables varying the spacing between the panels of the wall form.
Wall forms for forming composition walls of concrete or similar material ordinarily comprise a pair of laterally spaced wall sections or panels between which the composition material is adapted to be poured and allowed to set to form a composition wall structure. It is customary practice to interconnect the wall sections of the form by a tie rod extending between the wall sections and 'to employ suitable means such as tie rod pins attachable to the wall sections and to the opposite end portions of the tie rod for accurately determining the spacing be tween the wall sections. The tie rods ordinarily have means, such as openings in the opposite ends thereof, through which the tie rod pins may extend to provide a releasable connection. However, when wall structures having other widths are desired to be formed, it is ordinarily necessary to substitute another tie rod adapted to provide a different spacing between the wall sections in accordance with the width of the wall structure which it is desired to produce.
One object of this invention is to provide means for interconnecting the wall sections of a form for composition wall structures which will enable varying the spacing between the wall sections to produce wall structures of different widths.
Another object of the invention is to provide anadapter clip which is attachable to one or both wall sections and to which the ordinary tie rod pin may be attached.- The tie rod pin is thus selectively attachable either to the customary attaching means on the associated wall section or to the adapter clip to vary the spacing between the wall sections of the form.
Other objects of the invention will become apparent as the following description proceeds, especially when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 2 is an enlarged clevational view of a portion of the structure shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of the structure shown in Figure 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, the wall form is generally indicated at and comprises a pair of laterally spaced wall sections 12 and 14. The wall section 12 includes a flat panel 16 having a reinforcing frame 18 secured to the outer side thereof. The wall section 14 comprises a fiat panel 20 which is laterally spaced from the panel 16, and a reinforcing frame 22 secured to the outer side of the panel. Composition material, indicated at 24, is adapted to be poured between the panels 16 and 20 of the form and allowed to set or harden to produce a wall structure having a width determined by the spacing between the panels.
The reinforcing frame 22 includes the longitudinally tats ate spaced vertical frame members 26 and the longitudinally extending frame member 28 extending across the upper ends of the vertical frame members. Another longitudinally extending frame member, similar to the frame member '28, may be provided along the bottom of the reinforcing frame. The reinforcing frame 18 for the wall section 12 is of the same construction as the reinforcing frame 22, one of the vertically extending frame members thereof being indicated at 30 and the uppermost longitudinally extending frame member being indicated at 32.
Horizontal longitudinally extending walers 34 and 36 are provided for the respective wall sections 12 and 14. -The waler 34 comprises the vertically spaced upper and lower angle bars 38 and 40. The angle bars 38 and 40 respectively have the vertically spaced horizontal inwardly extending flanges 42 and 44 and the vertically extending flanges 46 and 48 which extend in directions away from each other. The outer surfaces of the flanges 46 and 48 lie in the plane of the outer edges of the vertical frame members 30, the frame members 30 being suitably notched to receive the angle bars. The angle bars may be secured together at longitudinally spaced points by any suitable means (not shown).
The waler 36 is like the waler 34 and comprises the vertically spaced upper and lower angle bars 50 and 52. The angle bars '50 and 52 respectively comprise the vertically spaced horizontal inwardly extending flanges 54 and 56, and the vertically extending flanges 58 and 60 which extend in directions away from each other. The outer surfaces of the flanges 58 and 60 lie in the plane of the outer edges of the vertical frame members 26, the frame members 26 being suitably notched to receive the angle bars. The angle bars of the waler 36 may be secured together at longitudinally spaced points by suitable means (not shown). The wall sections 12 and 14 of the form are secured together in laterally spaced relation by means including a tie rod 62. The tie rod 62 extends transversely of the form between the vertically extending frame members thereof and through openings 64 in the panels 16 and 20. The tie rod 62 extends between the horizontal flanges of the angle bars of the walers 34 and 36 and the lefthand end portion of the tie rod, as shown in Figure 3, is formed with a transverse opening 66. A tie rod pin 68 is provided having a pair of laterally spaced depending legs 70 and 72 which are connected at the upper ends of the legs. The outer leg 71) is adapted to extend through the opening 66 in the tie rod, and, in the assembled relation illustrated, is adapted to extend along the outer sides of the vertical flanges 4-6 and 48 of the angle bars of waler '34. The inclined surface 74 at the lower end of leg 70 is for the purpose of facilitating the insertion of the leg through the opening 66 in the tie rod during assembly. The inner leg 72 of the pin 68 extends along the inner side of the vertical flange '46 of angle bar 38. In accordance with this construction, the lefthand end portion of the tie rod is releasably connected to the wall section 12 of the form against shifting movement transversely of the form.
An adapter clip 76 is shown associated with the wall section 14. The adapter clip comprises a pair of spaced pins or members 78 which are of identical construction and substantially the same in construction as the tie rod pin 68. The pins 78 each comprise the laterally spaced inner and outer depending legs 80 and 82 which are connected together at their upper ends. The pins 78 are adapted to hook over the upwardly extending flange 58 with the inner leg 80 extending downwardly along the inner side of flange 58 and with the outer leg 82 extending along the outer sides of the flanges 58 and 60. The pins 78 are thus releasably engageable over the flange 58 and when thus assembled are prevented from shifting transversely of the form. The pins 78 are connected together by a connecting plate 84 which extends between the pins and is rigidly and permanently secured to the outer sides of the outer leg 82 of the pins.
The plate 84 is provided with an enlarged opening 86 which is generally in line with the space between the angle bars 50 and 52 of the waler 36 when attached to the latter to loosely surround the righthand end portion of the tie rod. The tie rod is formed with a transverse Opening 88, similar to the opening 66, in its righthand end portion for receiving the leg 70' of another tie rod pin 68' which is of exactly the same construction as the tie rod pin 68 previously described. The tie rod pin 68' hooks over the upper edge of and is supported by plate 84 of the adapter clip and is releasably engaged therewith normally preventing movement of the pin 68 transversely of the form.
It will be readily apparent that if a composition wall of a somewhat greater width than that shown is desired, the adapter clip 76 may be omitted and the pin 68' engaged directly with the waler 36 by hooking over the flange 58, in the same manner in which the pin 68 at the lefthand side of the form is directly engaged with the waler 34. On the other hand, if a wall structure of a somewhat lesser width is desired, a second adapter clip having the same construction as that shown may be employed in association with the panel 12 and releasably engaged upon the waler thereof in the same manner that the adapter clip 76 is engaged with the waler 36. The pin 68 may then be releasably engaged with the second adapter clip by hooking over the connecting plate thereof in exactly the same manner that the pin 68' is attached to the adapter clip illustrated at 76. It will thus be apparent that by employing an adapter clip as illustrated, wall structures of varying Widths may be constructed without requiring the use of substitute tie rods.
It will also be noted that the tie rod 62 has a second opening 90, like the openin s 66 and 88. which is located adjacent to the opening 88 inwardly thereof. By thus providing plural openings for at least one end of the tie rod, the form is thereby adapted to be employed to form wall structures having widths of still other widths;
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A prefabricated form for composition wall structures comprising laterally spaced wall sections be ween which composition material may be poured and allowed to set to form a composition wall structure, means for maintaining a preselected spacing between said wall sections comprising a tie rod extending across the space between said wall sections and connected at one end to one of said wall sections, an adapter clip, means on the other of said wall sections providing an attaching portion for supporting said adapter clip, said adapter clip having means for engagement with said attaching portion and having a tie rod pin supporting portion spaced laterally outwardly of said other wall section from said last-named means, and means comprising a tie rod pin connected to the other end of said tie rod for selectively rigidly securing said tie rod to each of said supporting portion of said adapter clip and said attaching portion of said other wall section to vary the spacing between said wall sections, said adapter clip being constructed to clear said tie rod.
2. A prefabricated form for composition wall structures comprising laterally spaced wall sections between which composition material may be poured and allowed to set to form a composition wall structure, means for maintaining a preselected spacing between said Wall sections comprising a tie rod extending across the space between said wall sections and connected at one end to one of said wall sections, an adapter clip, means on the other of said wall sections providing an upright attaching portion for supporting said adapter clip, said adapter clip having a hooked portion engageable over said attaching portion and having an upright tie rod pin supporting portion spaced laterally outwardly of said other wall section from said hooked portion, and means comprising a tie rod pin having a releasable connection with the other end of said tie rod, and also having a hooked portion engageable over said portions for selectively rigidly securing said tie rod to said portions, said adaptor clip being constructed to clear said tie rod.
3. An adapter clip comprising a pair of identical relatively thin, fiat pins, each pin including leg portions extending parallel to one another in spaced relation and a connecting portion joining said leg portions at one end thereof, said portions of each pin lying in a common plane and said pins occupying spaced parallel planes with the leg portions of one respectively laterally opposed to the leg portions of the other and with the connect ing portions of said pins also laterally opposed, the inner edges of said leg and connecting portions of each pin defining a hook adapted to engage over a support and the hook of one pin being opposed to and in alignment with the hook of the other pin, and a fiat plate rigidly connecting said pins, said plate lying in a plane at right angles to the spaced parallel planes of said pins and flush against the outer edges of one pair of opposed leg portions and permanently secured thereto, the opposed leg portions to which said plate is permanently secured being longer than the other opposed leg portions, the spacing between the inner edges of the leg portions of each pin being equal to the thickness of said plate, and said plate being formed with an aperture to receive a member extending between said pin without obstruction.
