3 Claims.
'1 The invention relates to brassieres and closely analogous garments having breast pockets.
The principal object of the present invention is the provision of a garment of the indicated character having means which functions to spread apart and firmly support the busts by the mere act of the wearer securing the garment in the proper position.
and the securing means of the brassiere, whereby the breasts will be divided. or spread apart and supported with the desired uplift.
With the foregoing, other objects of the invention will appear when the following specification is read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. 1 is a front view of a brassiere embodying the present invention, a portion being broken away.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional View taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. i is a front view of a brassire showing a modification of the invention.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Referring now more particularly to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawing, it will be apparent that there is shown a brassiere comprising a. body band it with cups or curviform pockets H for the busts or breasts. Shoulder straps i2 are connected with band ii! in relation to the pockets ll. One end of each strap 12 is attached to the band Ill at the top edge of a pocket H and the other end of the strap is attached to the band to be disposed at the back when the garment is worn. The straps i2 assist in holding the brassiere up in place. One end of the body band II] has secured thereto one end of a short elastic strip l8, and the other end of the strip has secured thereto a tab I '3 having a series of eyelets l5. The other end of the body band It} has secured thereto an elastic strip l6 which is doubled upon itself forming a loop, the ends of strip l6 being attached to the band ii]. A hook I7 is connected with the loop formed by the strip I6. This hook I! is engageable in any one of the eyelets E5 to secure the brassiere around the body of the wearer. The eyelets i5 and hook ll enable desired adjustments in addition to the elastic strips I3 and Hi. The strips, however, constantly draw the body band I I] in form fitting sametime said strips yield in accordance with movements of the wearer.
In accordance with the present invention a tunnel 20 is formed on the body band ID by parallel lines of stitching 2i extending through the material of the band and a strip of fabric 22 o-n'the inside of the band Iii. As shown, one tunnel isformed with respect to each pocket I I. The tunnel extends partly around the pocket from a point at the top of the pocket, indicated at 23, alongthe periphery of the pocket following the lower arc. thereof, and then laterally to the related end of the band ill, said tunnel opening through an eyelet 24 secured to the fabric of the band H].
A suitable length of inelastic tape or cord 25 is arranged for guided movement in each of the tunnels 29. One end of the tape or cord 25 is secured to the fabric of the band I0 at the top of the pocket, as at 26, and the other end of the tape or cord 25, after passing through the eyelet 24, is attached to the related elastic strip l3 or !6, as the case may be, at 21.
It is to be understood that the tapes or cords 25 are of such length that they lie unstrained and without any slack in the normal condition of the garment when not in use. It is also to be understood that brassieres are made in difierent normal sizes according to body and bust measurements.
The brassiere having the features set forth is worn in the usual manner. It is mainly supported on the wearers body by the straps I2 arranged on the shoulders. The hook I 1 is engaged in one of the eyelets l5 causing the strips l3 and IE to stretch. This causes a drawing strain on the tapes or cords 25 confined by the tunnels 20. As a result, the busts are firmly held spread apart by a combined lateral and upward constantly exerted stress of portions of the brassiere afi'ected by the tensioned tapes or cords 25. Thus, the busts are divided or spread apart and are firmly held by the mere act of wearer putting the brassiere into use.
In Figs. 4 and 5, there is shown a modification of the invention, The modified brassire differs from that shown in Fig. 1 in that a hook 30 is connected with the outer end of each of the tapes or cords 25 in lieu of attaching said end to the strips l3 and I6, and a series of eyelets 3| is secured to the material of the body band I0, in lieu of using the eyelets I5 on the tab I4. In other respects the modified brassiere is substantially similar to that shown in Fig. 1 and similar reference numerals are applied to corresponding parts and features.
I claim:
1. A garment including a body band having breast pockets, means including elastic portions on the ends of the band for connecting said ends thereby retaining the band looped around the body of the wearer, tunnels formed on the band extending from the tops of the pockets down around the pockets near the middle of the band and then laterally along the lower edge of the band, and draw members arranged for movement in the tunnels, respectively, and having their upper ends connected with the band at the upper ends of the tunnels and their lower ends passing out of the tunnels and connected with said elastic portions for spreading apart the breasts of the wearer of the garment when the band is retained looped as stated.
2. A brassiere including a body band having breast pockets, means for connecting the ends of the band to retain the band looped around the body of the wearer, said means comprising elastic strips secured to said ends and cooperative fasteners on said strips, tunnels extending from the top of the pockets down partly around the pockets near the middle of the band and then laterally along the lower edge of the band to near the ends of the band, and inelastic draw cords arranged in the tunnels, respectively, and having their upper ends connected with the band at the upper ends of the tunnels and their lower ends passing out of the tunnels and connected with said elastic strips for spreading apart the breasts of the wearer of the brassire when Worn.
3. A brassiere including a body band having breast pockets and shoulder straps, tunnels formed on the band and extending from the tops of the pockets downwardly around peripheral portions of the pockets and then laterally along the lower edge of the band and opening through the band adjacent the lower edge thereof, and draw members loosely extending in the tunnels, respectively, the upper ends of the draw members attached to the band at the upper ends of the tunnels and the lower end portions of the draw members extending out of the open ends of the tunnels and connected with elastic tabs on the ends of the band, said tabs having cooperative fasteners for retaining the band looped around the body of the wearer and also for tensioning the draw members.
