Description

Patented Jan. 2, 1951 t;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BRACELET FOR Wms'r WATCHES I Carl Egon Askholt, Copenhagen, Denmark, as-
signor of one-half to V. Sieler-t, Ikast, Denmark Application oct ber ii, 1948, Serial N s ua p In Denmark October 17, 1947 i 2 claims.
I The invention'relates to bracelets for wristwatches comprising substantially a pair of semi-r circular strips of metal which are each hingedly connected with the wrist-watch by means of ah'ook and the free ends of which are adapted to be connected with each other by means of a locking-device. Each of the said semi-circular strips of metal may in accordance with the invention be formed with beaded edges which act to stifien'the strips and to retain strips of leather or other material for decorative purposes.
Furthermore,.the said hook may be provided with a clamp comprising a tubular member of rectangular section into which one end of the semi-circular strip can be introduced, the strip being provided with a punched-out rectangular flap which after having been put through the rectangular tube of the clamp is bent through an angle of 180 in such a manner that the bent flap comes to lie on the inside of the bracelet so as to retain the strip at the clamp.
Finally, the invention resides in a special form of the locking device which will be more explicitly described hereinafter.
An embodiment on the watch bracelet in accordance with the invention is illustrated in the drawing in which Figure 1 shows the bracelet without the watch,
Figure 2 is a development of the outer side of one of the semi-circular metal-strips,
Figures 3 and 4 are a plan-view and a side-view respectively of the latch of the locking device,
Figure 5 is a development of the outer side of the other semi-circular metal-strips,
Figure 6 shows a blank for the production of a clamp for connecting the semi-circular strips with either strap of the watch,
Figures 7 and 8 are a side-view and plan-view respectively of the completed clamp,
Figure 9 is an inside view of the metal-strip shown in Figure 5 and provided with a clamp and Figure 10 is a section taken along the line X--X in Figure 1.
As shown in Figure 1 the bracelet comprises a pair of semi-circular metal-strips I l and I2 which are each connected with a clamp 13 having a hook l4, which is adapted to engage a strap on thewatch in the manner known from most wristwatch-bracelets. The metal-strips H and 12 are adjoined at I 5 where they are connected with each other by means of a locking device hidden in one of the strips, the latch of which device has a projection l6 by means of which the latch can be displaced when the bracelet is to be, put on or removed.
The metal-strip [2 which is shown'partly dez veloped in Flgure'2 is formed'with beaded edges ll, see Figure 10. At one end of the strip 12 the beaded edges I! are so broad as to make contact along the line 18 so that this end of the strip l2 presents the form of a rectangular tube. Furthermore the tube is partly closed at its ends by means of a pair of flaps I9 flanged from the strip l2.
The latch 20 shown in Figures .3 and 4 is arranged inside this tube. The latch is at its front end formed with a cross-pin 2| behind which are recesses 22, each containing a flat coiled spring 23, Figure 2. The spring engages with its front end the flap i9 and with its rear end the latch so as to normally hold the latch 20 in the position indicated in Figure 2. The latch can be pushed forward by placing the finger of the hand upon'the projection l6 of the latch whereby the springs 23 are compressed.
A pair of slots 24 are punched out at the opposite end of the strip l2 so as to define a rectangular flap or tab 25, the purpose of which will be explained hereinafter.
The metal-strip ll shown in Figure 5 is at one end formed with similar slots 24 so as to equally present a rectangular flap- 25. At the opposite end of the strip the two flaps I! are so broad as to similarly make contact along a line 26 corresponding to the line l8 of Figure 2. In this manner a rectangular tube is formed at the end of the strip I I, and this tube is like in Figure 2 partly closed by a pair of flaps l9 flanged from the strip I I. The strip l I is formed with a punched-out aperture 21 comprising a pair of opposed notches 28. The aperture 21 and the notches 28 are of such size and shape that the latch 20 can be introduced therethrough into the strip ll upon which the cross-pin 2| of the latch will engage the flaps 19 under the action of the springs 23. The locking device can now only be released if the projection 16 is manually displaced so much that the cross-pin 2| of the latch comes into register with the notches 28 and the latch can then be laterally disengaged from the strip II.
The aforesaid clamp IS with the hook I4 is made by folding the blank shown in Figure 6. The flap 29 is rolled to form the hook I4 and the two clamps l3 are bent towards each other as shown in Figure 8 so that this part ofthe clamp is constituted by a rectangular tube. The dimensions of this tube are such that one end of the metal-strips l l and H can be introduced into the clamp which surrounds the end of the strip without clearance. The end of thefiap 25 is now bent as shown in Figure 9 and the: strip 3 and the clamp are thus firmly connected with each other.
I'he semi-circular strips Hand l2 are covered on their outer faces by means of a strap 3! of leather, plastic or other material which is retained by the flanges ll surrounding the edges of the strap. If the strap 3| is. made of transparent material the face of the metal-strips covered by the strap may be decorated.
The length of the strips I l and (2 are adapted to the circumference of the wrist of the person who shall wear the watch-bracelet, the parts of the strips situated outside the slots 24 being ourtailed. Bending of the flap 25 may be effected at anyplace thereof, after the clamp I 3 has been positioned upon the strip.
The strips I l and I2 are preferably made of thin, mi d sheet-metal and the clamps [3 of thin hard-sheet metal.
I claim: J
