Description

W. STEPHENS.
INDICATOR.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILMOT STEPHENS, OF BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK.
INDICATOR'.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 253,319, dated February 7, 1882.
Application-filed November 22, 188,1. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, WILMo'r STEPHENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Indicators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description or" the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of my invention is the construction of a business-indicator and card-holder of very simple form, consisting of three parts only, for use in offices or houses.
Myimprovementis illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a front view of the same; Fig. 2, a side sectional view, and Fig. 3 a rear view, in elevation, of the front plate and disk connected therewith.
My invention consists of the following principal parts, viz: a front plate, A, a rear plate,
B, and a center disk,C,provided with a thumb- 'pece, D, and constructed and arranged in the manner and for the purpose hereinafter described.
I prefer to make the front and back plates of cast-iron, in the form shown but they may be made of other material and in other forms. The thin center disk may be of tin, card-board, or other suitable material. The front plate is provided with a slot, C, through which can be seen the margin of the center disk, on which is inscribed or printed any desired announcements in words or figures. rests in an annular recess, c, formed in the back of the front plate, and is attached to the shank of the thumb-piece 1),'which extends through the front plate, and by which thumbpiece the said' disk is turned to present the de- The center disk.
sired announcement at the slot. A Hange, g, is formed on the back ot'said front plate around the recess e, projects a slight but uniform distance beyond the disk, and its upper surface is flat. The object of this formation ofthe iiange is to present a flat surface to the back plate when the two plates are bolted together,
and at the same time form a slight recess and support, h, at the upper portion of the indicator, over the disk, for the reception of cards. 'lo'facilitate the holding of the cards the back plate extends above the front plate, as shown in the drawin gs. The two plates are provided with holes at corresponding places, as shown at f, through which screws or nails may be passed to hold the plates together and fasten the same to a door or other surface.
Having thus described my invention, what I 1. In a business-indicator and card-holder,
the 'combination ot' the front plate provided with an annular recess, c, and a flange, g, the' claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
