Description

L1 DONAHUE.
TAGS. No 174 723. Patented March14,1876.

JOSEPH I. DONAHUE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN TAGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,723, dated March 14, 1876; application filed January 29, 1876. 4
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH I. DONAHUE, of Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented a new and lmproved Tag, of which the following is a specification My invention is a metal eyelet in a tag for the string, constructed of two metal disks and fastened to the tag, one at each side, by tongues on each struck out of the hole for the string and looked through the hole of the other, also through the tag, in a manner which makes a very simple and cheap,'as well as efficient, contrivance.
Figures 1 and 2' are perspective vie vvs of the two parts of the eyelet. Fig. 3 is a plan of the tag, and Fig. 4 is a section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
I take two little plates or disks, to b, of thin sheet metal, or any other substance that may be suitable, and form two tongues, 0 on opposites sides of the hole, from the metal displaced by making the holes, which I pass through the hole in the paper tag D, placing one disk on one side and the other on the other-side, and also passing the tongue of each plate through the hole of the other, the tongues of one plate being between the tongues of the other and heading them down, as shown, thus making a substantial eyelet in a simple and cheap way. My eyelet may also be used for other articles besides tags if desired. I
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with tag D, of the disks to b, one on each side, and each having tongues c c, as and for the purpose specified.
JOSEPH I. DONAHUE.
