Description

Nov. 21, 1950 A. RUCKER 00MB SUPPORT AND FLAME SHIELD Filed Oct. 26, 1946 Patented Nov. 21, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE COMB SUPPORT AND FLAME SHIELD Arthur Rucker, Chicago, Ill.
Application October 26, 1946, Serial No. 705,939
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to toilet set articles and more particularly to a hair comb and curling iron support and flame shield. When it is'desired to straighten curly or kinky hair resort is usually made to a hair comb of a particular type. Combs of this type are heated over aflamebefore use. The life of the comb or curler will be lengthened if it is supported over the flame in such manner that the handle will not be burned while the teeth of the comb are being heated in or immediately above the flame, or the effective end of the curler likewise heated.
Many persons employ the combs or curlers in their homes and heat them upon a gas range, oil stove or the like while others employ them in beauty parlors and in all cases handling of the comb or curler will be greatly facilitated and its efficiency increased if the handle is kept relatively cool While the effective portion thereof is vbeing heated.
More spec'ically the invention provides a resilient support directly engaging the toothed end of the comb or the directly effective end of the curler to support same in the path of the flame while supporting the handle away from the ame path and above a guard member so positioned as to provide an air passageway immediately below the handle effective at all times to keep same cool.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this disclosure and wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout.
In the drawing:
Fig. l is a view of the comb and curling iron support in elevational perspective.
Fig. 2 is a View of the comb and curling iron support in side elevation illustrating its use and application to a conventional gas range, and,
Fig. 3 is a view of Fig. 1 seen from one end.
The device includes a preferably substantially oblong one-piece resilient frame having parallel side members I, 5 upturned at one end to form the vertically disposed portions 3, d connected by the elevated tail rod or portion 2. The forward ends of the frame sides are bent obliquely upwardly and toward each other at substantially a forty-rive degree angle forming head-end por,
tions 6, I0 terminating above the level of said tail portion andaseparated by the integral downwardly disposed U-shaped portion having sides 1, 9 and base 8, said U-shaped portion and head-end portions 6, I0 being in a common plane parallel to tail piece 2, the sides of said U-shaped portion being spaced apart a distance to readily receive the toothed end of the conventional hair straightening comb or the eiective end of a curling iron.
Secured to the frame sides I, 5 by its sleevelike ends I3, I4 and spanning the frame at its rear end contiguous to the upturned portions 3, 4 is the flat shield plate II, the forward edge I2 thereof being spaced rearwardly slightly from the longitudinal central portion of the frame. In use the device is placed upon the gas range, oil stove or like heater so that only the frame sides I, 5 forwardly of shield II, the head-end portions 6, I0 and the U-shaped portion are directly over or in the path of the ame. The comb is now placed upon the support or holder with the base of the toothed end A resting upon the base 8 of the U-shaped frame portion and the handle Bupon the frame end 2, the forward end of said handle being disposed slightly rearwardly of the edge I2 of shield II.
The handle B is now supported in spaced relation to shield II and is kept cool by the air circulating between same and the handle. position the flame will properly heat the comb when the support is applied to a gas range burner' R, as indicated in Fig. 2. The curler is likewise disposed and either it or the comb are ready for use when heated without inconvenience to the operator or user or the possibility of damage to the utensil.
What is claimed is:
In a comb support and flame shield for use upon a gas Vrange or the like, a substantially oblong open Wire frame, one end of said frame bent at right angles to the body, the opposite end bent into parallelism with said one end and including a U-shaped portion disposed wholly above said one end with relation to said frame to support the comb head higher than the handle, the frame body adapted for disposal upon the gas range with said opposite end disposed immediately over the gas ame, and a thin flat solid shield spanning said frame horizontally and extending longitudinally thereof from sadmone end to a position near the longitudinal center of the v:frame and defining the oor of a cool air passageway directly above In thisV Same, said shield being spaced below the level Number of the upper end of the upturned -portion of 916,255 said one end of the frame. 1,168,578 ARTHUR RUCKER. 1,333,616 5 1,446,349 REFERENCES CITED 1,540,959 The following references are of record in the 1,599,511 le of this patent: UNITED STATES PATENTS lo Number Name Date D. 114,574 Young May 2, 1939 250,256 Kaler 1 Nov. 29, 1881 Name Date Barrows Mar. 23, 1909 Thompson Jan. 18, 1916 Hall et a1 Mar. 16, 1920 Jewell Feb. 20, 1923 Schumacker June 9, 1925 Brown Sept. 14, 1926 Colbourne Mar. 22, 1927 Levin Dec. 25, 1945
