Description

.Dec. 25, 1945. l. LEVIN 2,391,466
ADJUSTABLE TRIANGLE Filed Dec. 19, 1944 FIG. 1.-
INVENTOR.
IRVIN LEVIN I ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 25, 1945 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE (Granted under the act of March 3, 1883, as amended April 30, 1928; 370 O. G. 757) 3 Claims.
The invention described herein may be manufactured and used by or for the Government for governmental purposes, Without the payment to me of any royalty thereon.
My invention relates to laboratory apparatus and more particularly to a support used on a tripod or ringstand while heating said laboratory apparatus.
An object of my invention is to provide an adjustable triangle of refractory material which can be used for different sizes of crucibles, casseroles and round bottom flasks as a support used on a tripod or ringstand while heating said laboratory ware.
Another object of my invention is to provide a short tube of small diameter of ceramic refractory material containing two small passages running the length of the tube.
Another object of my invention is to provide three wires of suitable length of small diameter of refractory metal bent at an angle so adapted so as to provide sliding means for said short tubes.
My invention will eliminate the necessity of providing different sizes of refractory triangles for use as supports in heating the various sizes of crucibles, casseroles and round bottom flasks and at the same time save much valuable time in laboratory procedure by not having to look for a refractory triangle of the right size.
My invention will be more fully understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein I have shown a preferred embodiment thereof.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a wire of refractory metal.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a tube of ceramic refractory material.
Fig. 3 shows an assembled view of the smallest size of the adjustable triangle.
Fig. 4 shows an assembled view of the largest size of the adjustable triangle.
Referring to Fig. l, a wire of refractory metal such as iron or chromel wire In is bent at an angle of 60 as shown at H so that legs l2 and I3 are of equal length. In Fig. 2, a short tube of refractory material such as ceramic or quartz I4 is shown containing two small passages l5 running longitudinally through the length of said tube. In the smallest assembled view. Fig. 3, the three bent wires of refractory metal I0, bent at an angle of 60 as shown at H of Fig. 1, are inserted through the two small passages i 5 running longitudinally through the length of said tubes of refractory material in each of the three tubes I4. The end of bent wires of refractory metal l0 are curved outwardly at I6. In Fig. 4 the assembly of the tubes of refractory ceramic material and bent wires of refractory metal H] are shown in position when the triangle is completely extended.
Having thus described my invention I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim:
1. A support of the class described comprising wires of a refractory metal bent at an angle and arranged so as to form an equilateral support, said wires of a refractory metal bent at an angle and sliding longitudinally through small passages extending the length of short refractory tubes of suitable length, said wires of a refractory metal,
lateral support, said wires of a refractory metal bent at an angle of sixty degrees and sliding longitudinally through small passages extending the length of short refractory tubes of suitable length, said wires of a refractory metal bent at an angle of sixty degrees are curved outwardly at their extremities so as to engage the ends of said short refractory tubes as stopping means when said equilateral support is in the completely opened position.
3. A support of the class described comprising wires of a refractory metal bent at an angle of sixty degrees and arranged so as to form an equilateral adjustable triangle, said wires of a refractory metal bent at an angle of sixty degrees and sliding longitudinally through small passages extending the length of short refractory tubes of suitable length, said wires of a refractory metal bent at an angle of sixty degrees are curved outwardly at their extremities so as to engage the ends of said hort refractory tubes as stopping means when said equilateral adjustable triangle is in the completely opened position.
IRVIN LEVIN.
