' E. F. BRIGHAM.
BED AND FOOT WARMER. No. 252,861. Patented Jan. 31,1882.
77727269345 W Z -T I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERASTUS F. BRIGHAM, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
BED AND FOOT WARMER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,861, dated January 31, 1882.
Application filed November 23, 1881.
To all trhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERAsTUs F. BRIGHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed and Foot Warmers and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of my invention is to provide a bed and foot warmer of ordinary construction with certain attachments by which the warmer contents tightly secured, and the apparatus.
conveniently handled.
It consists, first, in a neck cast with or otherwise rigidly attached to the body of the warmer; second, a screw-cap stopper having a rubber packing to fit onto said neck; and, third, a handle which is slipped over the stopper and cIlGCk and securely fastened to thelatter.
It is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of the body of a warmer with the neck attached; Fig. 2, a view of the screw-cap stopper, and Fg. 3 a view of the handle.
The various parts are indicated by separate letters.
A represents a body of a foot or bed warmer, which is shown in the drawings as circular in form, with a flat top and bottom, and constructed in two pieces; but this form of construction may be varied without affecting the nature of my invention. It may, for instance, be made of tin, or be cast in one piece of some other thin or thick metal; or it, as well as the other parts, may be made of glass, earthenware, or any other suitable material, and be of different form from that above described.
B is a neck, soldered, cast, or otherwise rig- (No model.)
idly attached to the body A. It is provided with a shoulder, a, a pin, d, and female screw e.
F is a male screw-cap,'provided internally at its base with a rubber packing.
D is a handle, made hollow to a depth equal to the length of neck and screw-cap, its inner circumference just large enough to permit the handle to slip over and fit snugly to the neck B. It is also provided with a triangular or bayonet slot, into which the pin d on neck B is turned, to confine the handle more securely to the neck. Hot water having been introduced into the warmer through the neck B, screw-cap (l is firmly secured thereon, and the handle D is then slipped over both stopper and neck, and close up to shoulder c on the neck, and locked by pin (1, as before mentioned.
It will be seen that the handle is placed horizontally to the pan the better to enable it to be used in warming beds.
Owing to the fewness of parts of my improvement the operation of emptying or filling the warmer can be quickly and easily performed, and by their construction and arrangein cut all leakage when in use is absolutely prevented.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. A bed and foot warmer provided with neck B, in combination with screw-cap stopper F and handleD, substantially as described.
2. In a bed and foot warmer, a neck adapted to receive a screw-cap stopper, in combination with said stopper, and with a handle adapted to slide over both the stopper and the neck, substantially as described.
In testimony whereot'I affix my signature in presenceof two witnesses.
ERASTUS F. BRIGHAM.
Witnesses:
WILKENS SoHENeK, CHAS. MARELIUS.
