GALVANIC PAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,765, dated January 24, 1882.
Application filed May 19, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUDWIG HEOHINGER, of Rochester, Monroe county, New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvementin Galvanic Pads; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a face elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are face views of two of the separate metallic disks. Figs. 5 and 6 are crosssections, respectively in lines 00 w and y y. Fig. 7 is a view of one of the clasps for bolding the disks together.
My improvement relates to galvanic pads or appliances for application to the human body; and the invention consists in the construction and arrangement hereinafter more fully described and definitely claimed.
The pad is constructed upon the well-known principle of the voltaio pile, consisting of several metallic disks of different kinds united in pairs, with layers of cloth or bibulous paper interposed between the pairs for the i urpo'se of receiving moisture to excite the galvanic action.
In the drawings, A B O, &c., represent the several disks of which the pad is composed, the same being made of different metals and placed together in pairs, with disks of cloth or paper placed between the pairs for receivin g moisture.
My improvement is as follows:
In the edges of the disks, at uniform distance apart, are made a series of notches or indentations, d d d, and near them are a series of holes,fff, cut through the disks at a little distance in from the edges, the notches and holes coinciding.

When the disks are all in position the square closed ends of the clasps 2t! e placed in the notches d d, and the loose ends of the clasps are inserted through the holes ff, embracing the edges of the disks, and the ends are then clasped in through the holes, as shown in Fig. 2.

By this means the moisture or the exciting-liquid is enabled to pass into and through the slots and come into intimate contact with all parts of the metal, thereby producing a better chemical action than where the disks are closed.
In the outer disks of the pile are made a series of corrugations or grooves, b I), extending nearly across the disks and corresponding with the slots at ain the other disks. When the disks are placed together the outer ones are so arranged that the grooves or corrugations b I) stand crosswise of the slots in the adjoining disks. These grooves or corruga tions form cross-channels in the outer imperforate disks, and allow the exciting-fluid which enters the slots to flow in contact with the inner faces ofthe outer disks, which it would not readily do if t e faces of the disks were fiat and laid close together.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. In a galvanic pad, the combination of the slotted disks provided with the square notches d d (I in the outer edges and the holes fff coincident therewith, and the thin metallic clasps g g, fitting flush in the notches and clasped through the holes, as shown and described, and for the purpose specified.
2. In a galvanic pad, the combination of the interior disks provided with slots crossing at right angles, and the exterior disks imperforate and provided with corrugations or grooves crossing the adjoining slots at; right angles, as herein shown and described.
