1 Claim. l
This invention relates to an improved holder for price tags and more particularly to a resilient type holder or spring clip adapted to be demountably applied to a ange of a shelf, the open end of a container or a portion of the upper edge of a bin or the like.
More particularly, it is a primary object oi the present invention to provide a resilient-type price tag holder of extremely simple construction and which is so constructed that it may be readily and eiciently utilized for detachably supporting two widely used and conventional types of price tags and each of which is capable of being interchangeably applied thereto without modification of the holder.
Various other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter become more fully apparent from the following description of the drawing, illustrating a preferred embodiment thereof, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational View showing the price tag holder in an applied position and supporting one conventional type of price tag;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the holder taken substantiallly along a plane as indicated by the line 22 of Figure l;
- 2 ing the holder 6 on the wall or flange II. opposite, free end I3 ofthe turned back portion 8 is flared outwardly to afford a lip capable of being manually engaged for releasing the spring portion of the price tag i5 therebetween to de- Figure 3 is a rear elevational view of the holder in an applied position;
Figure 4 is a perspective View of the holder, and
Figure 5 is a View similar to Figure 2 and show.- ing a diierent typev price tag demountably supported by the holder.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the improved price tag holder in its entirety, which is designated generally 6, is form-ed from an elongated strip or ribbon of a relatively resilient material, such as spring metal, and which is turned back upon itself at each end and on opposite sides thereof to form a substantially lstraight and flat intermediate portion l, an elongated turned back end 8 and a shorter turned back end 9.
The turned back end 8 is provided with a substantially straight portion il) which is adapted to be normally disposed substantially parallel to the intermediate portion 'I to combine therewith to form a spring clip or clamp adapted to resiliently engage over the upper edge of a shelf flange, container or bin wall il. The substantially straight portion I0 is joined with the intermediate portion 'I by an outwardly bowed arcuate upper portion I2 constituting a spring loop for yieldably urging the portion lil toward said intermediate port-ion i for resiliently cla1npmountably retain it in the recess Iii. Said turned back portion 9, as best seen in Figure 4, is provided with outwardly pressed portions forming a pair of longitudinally extending, substantially parallel inwardly opening grooves I6 which are transversely spaced and which open outwardly of the upper end of said turned back end 9. The grooves I 6 are adapted to receive the transversely spaced depending spikes Il of another type of conventional price tag I8, as illustrated in Figures 1 to 3 and which spikes are normally utilized for penetration into a container or food item for supporting the price tag thereon.
It will thus be readily apparent that the tag holder 6 is so constructed that without adjustmentor variation it may be employed for mount-I ing either of the price tags I5 or I8 and which constitute the two types of price tags most commonly employed in retail stores.
Another advantage of the invention resides in the fact that it is now a common practice to advertise commodities for sale singularly or at special prices in groups, ordinarily requiring the use of two price tags, and it will be readily obvious that by enlarging the price tag i5 so that a substantial portion thereof would be exposed behind the tag I3, that both of said types of tags, including one of each, could be mounted and supported simultaneously by the holder 6 for advertising the unit and group price of a particular commodity, thus eliminating the use of a second price tag holder.
Various modications and changes are con templated and may obviously 'be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter defined by the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
A price tag holder comprising a spring clip The having means whereby it is adapted to detachably engage over the upper edge of a container wall or shelf iiange to detachably mount the holder thereon, said spring clip having a leg turned outwardly and back upon itself, the turned back portion of said leg being provided with inwardly and upwardly opening longitudinally extending grooves adapted to receive piercing spikes r`which extend from an edge of a price tag for demountably supporting the price tag on the holder, and said turned back portion being spaced from the adjacent clip leg and combining therewith to form an upwardly opening card receiving space adapted to receive and de-v tachably engage a portion of a card for mount- ,l
ing the card behind the price tag.
