1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a device for arranging paper typewriting sheets and duplicating carbon sheets for typists, and one of its objects is to provide a device which can be attached to a typewriting or other work desk, and used, when required to line all of the edges on one side and on one end in satisfactory registration, and then shifted out of work position, so as to be available at a moments notice for arranging a different group of paper sheets, and one of the objects of the invention is to provide a sheet holding tray of special design, a clamp attachable to the edge of a desk, and a hinge joint between the tray and the clamp, from which the tray may be suspending in an inactive position, to the side of the desk.
With the above and other objects in view the invention comprises certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification, and fully illustrated in the drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation, showing the tray in horizontal position on a desk.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the tray.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the movable hinge leaf.
Referring to the accompanying drawings designates a tray having a bottom wall 6, end walls 1 and 8, a side wall 9, and guard flanges l0, provided on all of the walls, except the bottom wall 6. One side ll of the tray is open, so that sheets of paper may be shifted into the tray under the guard flanges Ill, and removed from the tray through this open side.
To the bottom wall 6, near the end walls I, a movable hinge leaf I4 is attached. This hinge leaf is attached by means of the pintle l5 to the hinge loop lBa, from which the clamping jaw 16 extends. The hinge 100p Isa and the jaw I6 are carried by the bar IS, the lower end of which is folded upon itself to provide the jaw l9, and this jaw is equipped with a bearing 20.
The screw 2| is threaded through the bearing 20, and is provided with a swiveled head 22, which is adapted to engage the bottom face of the top of the desk, while the upper jaw it engages the upper side of the desk. The screw 2! is equipped with a winged head 23, so that it may be turned with ease and comfort.
The typist places a group of paper sheets and the carbon sheets used for duplicating the typewriting in alternating order between the paper sheets, and then pushes these combined sheets against one end and the side wall 9, so that the side and end edges of all sheets are moved into proper registration. If necessary the typist may tilt the tray upwardly on the hinge joint, so that all of the sheets will slide against the end wall 'I and fall into the proper end edge registration.
When the tray is no longer required on the desk, the tray may be swung downwardly against the side wall of the desk, as shown in Fig. 1 in dotted lines. In this position the three side walls of the tray retain the paper sheets and carbons in position. By lifting the tray fo the paper sheets and carbons may be aligned and the three side walls of the tray again retain the paper sheets and carbons in position in the tray.
It is understood that the tray may be constructed in any required size, and that various changes in the details, combinations and arrangements shown, may be made, within the scope of the invention, as defined by the claim hereof.
Having described the invention, I claim. as new:
An arranger for typewriting paper and carbon sheets, comprising a clamp having an upper jaw forming a hinge leaf, a screw threaded on the clamp and provided with a swivel clampin head, and a tray having one bottom wall, two oppositely disposed end walls and one side wall, said. end walls and said side wall being secured to said bottom wall and provided with a retaining flange, and another hinge leaf attached to the bottom face of the said bottom wall and connected to the first mentioned hinge leaf, so that upon lifting the tray together with the hinge leaf from the desk into vertical position above or adjacent to the desk the paper and carbon sheets are aligned and retained in said tray.
