Description

G. A. WEISSHAAR.
- COPY HOLDEB, APPLICATION FILED MAR I, 1915.

v'neoom MQVMA a/vi THE COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH CO., WASHINGTON, D. C.
GUSTAV AswElssl-IAAR, OF BRAZIL, INDIANA.
COPY-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 19115.
Application filed March 1, 1915. Serial No. 11,220.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsTAv A. WEIS- SHAAR, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Brazil, in the county of Clay and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Copy-Holders, of which the following is a. specification.
This invention relates to paper holders to be used in connection with typewriters and the like, the said invention being more generally known as a copy holder.
An object of this invention is to provide a device of the character indicated, which will be hereinafter referred to as a copy holder, so that books, papers, maps or other matter may be supported by it of which copies are to be made and I do not wish to be restricted to its use as a paper holder alone.
An object of the present invention is to provide a foldable copy holder which may be collapsed or dismounted from the support expeditiously, means being provided for adjusting a bracket with relation to a typewriter stand, table or other base, the said invention being furthermore useful for holding the copy directly above a typewriter or for supporting said copy at the side thereof according to the manner of installing the device.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction, and in the arrangement and combination of partsto be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
7 In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a fragment of a typewriter frame, with the invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a plan view of a fragment of the frame showing the bracket with the arm removed; Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a sectional View on a line corresponding with the line 4L4L of Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a detailed sectional view showing the connection between the arm and the copy support.
In these drawings 10 denotes a fragment of a typewriter frame and 11 a bracket comprising a body portion having a longitudinally disposed slot 12 adapted to receive an The depending portion of the arm is threaded and a set nut 17 is screwed thereon to bind the arm in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3. As shown in the drawing the arm which constitutes the bracket for supporting the copy holder comprises a series of sections, one of which extends from the bracket to the collar 18 and another section 19 extends from the collar 18 to the collar 20.
The section 19 has an elbow or angle so that one portion of the section extends upwardly from the typewriter frame. Another section 21 of the arm is joined to the collar 20 and enters a sleeve 22 carried by the frame 23, which constitutes the copy holder, the said frame consisting of a series of approximately horizontal strips 21 and strips 25, 26 and 27 crossing the strips 241- and secured thereto by appropriate fastenings 28 which may be in the nature of rivets, screws or the like. The strips 25, 26 and 27 have angular extensions 29, 30 and 31 respectively constituting bases or rests for the edges of the copy and it is apparent from an inspection of Fig. 1 that sheets of copy may lie edgewise on the copy support and be prevented from displacement, due to the formation of the base members. The arm may be adjusted by being slid in the collars 18, 20 and sleeve 22 and it will be seen from an inspection of the drawing that each collar and sleeve has a set screw adapted to bind the telescopic section of the arm with which it is associated, thus enabling an operator to raise or lower the copy support to suit particular requirements.
As shown in the drawing, the copy support in Fig. 1 is in position approximately centrally but above the typewriter frame and this will, in most instances, be a convenient position in which to have the copy, as it is practically on a line with the eye of an operator when manipulating the key board.
While I have shown the arm 16 of the bracket member as positioned in the slot 12, whereby the copy holder is supported directly in front of the operator, it will be seen that by unscrewing the nut 17 the arm 16 may be moved to a position directly opposite from the position shown in Fig. l, or in a position at one side of the frame 10, whereby a typewriter cover or the like may be positioned on the frame without engaging the bracket support.
I claim- 1. In a copy holder, a bracket having a groove in the upper surface thereof, said groove extending longitudinally of the bracket and having a slot formed in the bottom thereof, an arm secured to the bracket, a portion of said arm lying in the groove, whereby the arm is held in fixed relation with the bracket, and an anchoring screw extending through the slot for securing the bracket to atypewriter frame.
2. In a copy holder, a bracket having a groove in the upper surface, and an opening adjacent one end of the groove, an arm having a right angled portion extending Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. G.
