Application April 28, 1949, Serial No. 90,116
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to Wearing apparel and has particular reference to a ladys coat and lining therefor having sleeves adapted to be tight ened about the wrists of the wearer.
The invention has in view a ladys coat of the type having a lining secured to the body thereof continuously along the edges of the open front and across the back adjacent the collar and with the sleeves thereof fitted within the sleeves of the coat and provided with free ends adapted to be tightened about the wrists of the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to provide a ladys coat of the indicated character in which the sleeves terminate in annular cuffs with overlapping ends for varying the size thereof and with interengageable means carried by the ends of the cuffs for tightening the cuffs about the wrists of the wearer.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, reference is now made to the following specification and accompanying drawings in which the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a ladys coat provided with a lining constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrating the lining in broken lines within the coat.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the lining.
3 is an enlarged view of the outer end. of one of the sleeves of the lining.
Fig. 4 is an end view of the said sleeve.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional View taken approximately on line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken approximately on line G-5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. '7 is a fragmentary sectional view taken approximately on line i---'! of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the ladys coat Iii is of any preferred type and as illustrated the same is of long le in cluding the usual body ll having a front opening 12, sleeves l3 and alining M.
The lining It includes a body H: which similar in formation to the body it of the coat and is connected therewith longitudinally of the i1 and i8 and across the back adjacent the coliar IS. The lining it also includes sleeves which are fitted within the sleeves l3 of the coat.
The body l5 of the lining is made up of inner and outer plies 2D and 2% which are secured to gether continuously along the forward edges 22 and 23 and across the top 24. The inner ply 2!! projects below the outer ply 2! and the same is secured thereto by a line of stitching 25 extending continuously about the bottom of the outer ply. The sleeves it are connected with the body I5 of the lining in the usual manner and each consists of an inner ply 26 extending from the shoulder to a cuif .2? while the outer ply 23 extends from the shoulder to slightly below the elbow with an outer ply 29 connected between the cuff El and the aforesaid outer ply 28 of the sleeves.
The outer ply 2! of the body i5 and the outer ply 28 of the sleeves it are preferably made of warm material such as wool or the like while the inner ply 26 of the body i5 and the inner ply 26 of the sleeves together with the cuffs 2i and the outer ply 29 of the sleeves are preferably made of a facing material such as silk, rayon and the like. The upper portions of the sleeves it of the lining snugly fit within the sleeves I3 of the coat While the lower portions thereof loosely fit within the lower ends of the sleeves. The cuffs iii include ends 30 and Si which are arranged in overlapping relation and are adjustable relative to each other so as to vary the size of the cuffs. The sleeves adjacent the cuffs 2'! have overlap ping portions 32 and 33 which portions are unconnected so that the lower ends of the sleeves together with the cuffs 27 may be tightened about the Wrists of the wearer.
In order to connect the ends of the cuffs together in overlapping relation for tightening the same about the wrists of the wearer, interengageable fastening means are provided on each of the cuffs which preferably consist of a runner 34 having a hingedly connected lever 35 secured to the end 3| of the cuff and a longitudinally extending member 36 secured upon the outer face of the end portion 39 of the cuff and having a series of transversely extending longitudinally spaced bars 31 adapted to be selectively engaged by the lever 35 for securing the ends 30 and 3| of the cuffs in overlapping connected relation.
The lining [4 may be permanently affixed to the body ll of the coat, or as illustrated, the lining may be of the removable type. For this purpose the body ll of the coat adjacent the edges I1 and 18 forming the front opening 12 of the coat and the forward edges 22 and 23 of the lining are provided with interengageable slide fastening means indicated generally by the reference character 38. Constructed in this manner the body l5 of the lining is adapted to be secured to the coat continuously along the forward edge 22 and across the top 24 and the forward edge 23.
What is claimed is:
In an article of the character described, a ladys coat including a coat body and sleeves, a removable lining including sleeves consisting of upper and lower portions, the upper portion of the sleeves snugly fitting within the sleeves of the coat, the lower portion of the lining sleeves being relatively flexible and loosely fitting the sleeves of the coat and being free for relative movement with respect to the coat sleeves, cufis carried by the lower ends of the lining sleeves having end portions arranged in overlapping relation for varying the size of the cuffs, and interengageable fastening means carried by the end portions of the cufis for adjustably tightening the cufls about the wrists of the wearer.
