Another. object-of the; invention is the provision ot a: brassiere having. a removable insert which maybe disposed within hems or recesses formed at: the: adjacent inner. edges: of the breast pockets to; maintain, said breast pockets and the-breasts oi the wearer in spaced relationship.

A further object: of the invention is-the provi sicn of a. brassiere of the: character indicated having a removable insert. said insert being; provided: with atransversezlower portion: and a pair of. concavelycurved arms extending upwardly from each end? of said transverse portion inorder to conform the insert to the. natural. curved. contour ofthe: breasts and to impart: suiiicient resiliency to the insert to prevent: any deleterious. effect upon the breasts as might result from ex: cessive pressure by said insert during the normal movements of the wearer.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a; brassire of the character indicated. having a removable insert to permit cleaning; laundering; and the like, the spaced, breast pockets being interconnected by a tape which carries a substanby considerable disadvantages to thewearer. For example, inserts have been provided sewn directly to the brassire, thereby preventing easy laundering and ironing. Also, U-shaped inserts have been provided having a pair of parallel arms which do not conform to the natural contour of the breasts and result in discomfort and injury to the delicate tissues of the breasts by causing excessive pressure.

The foregoing disadvantages are completely eliminated in the brassiere of the present invention, the features and advantages of which will be readily apparent in the course of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which illustrates a prep Fig. l is a perspective view of a brassiere embodying. the features of the invention. in place upon the body of the wearer.

An important feature of the invention resides in the construction and conformation of spacing member I5, and in the manner of its removable association with the brassiere to maintain the pockets I!) in spaced relation while obviating any deleterious efiect upon the breasts of the wearer, as might result from excessive pressure, particularly during stressed movements in the The formation of arms llin thefabove-described manner fulfills several important functions.

Thirdly, the upward divergence and curved conformation of arms I! imparts resiliency to spacing member [5 with the result that the wearer may bend over, breathe deeply and the like, without experiencing excessive pressure, discomfort or harmful constriction.

If desired, a tie-piece or ribbon [8 maybe secured to connecting tape [3 in a substantially vertical position, as by means of a line of stitching, as clearly shown in Figs. 5 and 6. Tie-piece I8 is preferably secured. to connecting tape I 3, or any equivalent structure interconnecting pockets IO intermediate the ends thereby forming tie-portions. Since certain modifications may be made in the'brassire of the invention without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the foregoing-description and shown in the accompanying drawing be interpreted merely as illustrative and not ina. limitfme; i

Havingthus; described. my invention-,- what I I 4 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a brassire, a pair of breast pockets having curved inner edges spaced apart from each other, each of said pockets having a recess coextensive with said inner edge, said pockets being joined together solely by a connecting tape at the lower edge of the brassire, and a resilient, removable. spacing memberhavinga lower transverse portion; and a pair of -'upward1y: divergent arms integral therewith, each of'said arms having-a curvature corresponding to said curved inner edges, each of said arms being disposable within a respective recess of each of said pockets,

said connecting tape carrying a tie-piece disposable normally in substantially vertical position, said tie-piece being secured intermediate its ends tosaid connecting tape and having a pair of free ends foldable over said transverse portion of the spacing member to be tied therearound, whereby to conceal said transverse portion and retain said spacing member in adjusted position.

2. In a brassire, apair of breast'pockets having curved inner edges spaced apart from each other, each of said pocketsbeing folded over along said curved inneredge to form a hem coextensive therewith, said pockets being joined together solely by 'a connecting tape at the lower edge of the brassire, and a resilient, removable spacing member having a lower transverse portion and a pair of concavely curved, upwardly divergent arms integral therewith, each of said tion being disposable substantially 'coextensively with said connecting tape, said connecting tape carrying a tie-piece disposable normally in substantially vertical position, s'aidtie-piecebeing secured intermediate its ends .to said connecting tape and having a pair of free endsfoldable. over said transverse portion of the spacing member, whereby to conceal saidtransverse portion and retain said'spacing member in adjusted position.
