Description
' W. NELSON, DGO'd.
E. J., NELSON, executor. HERNIAL TRUSS.
No. 251,343. Patented Dec. 20,1881.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
YORK ED \V I N J.
NELSON, EXECUTOR.
HERNIAL TRUSS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 251,343, dated December 20, 1881. Application filed May 5, 1879.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM NELsoN, of Little Falls, in the county of I-Ierkimer, and in the'State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hernial Trusses; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved pad, and Fig. 2 is a vertical central section of the same.
Letters of like name and parts in each of the figures.
The design of my invention is to cause a truss-pad to have a firm uniform bearing upon or over a ruptured spot without interference with perfect freedom of motion of the body of the wearer; to which end it consists of a trusspa-d supported upon or by means of a number of spiral springs, which are placed beneath the same near its periphery, substantially as and for the purpose hereinafter specified.
In the annexed drawings, A represents a truss-pad, having any desired shape and constructed of or from any desired material. The pad A is placed over a suitable back or base, B, which corresponds thereto in general shape, and is connected with the usual system of belts,
kind refer to like so as to permit of attachment to or upon the body of a person. The pad A and base B are connected together by means of a number of spiral springs, O, which are arranged at equidistant points near theperipheries of said parts, and have their ends secured to or within the contiguous faces of the same.
In use the pad A is placed over a ruptured part upon the person of its wearer and pressure applied by means of straps or belts, which bear upon the baseB, and in consequence of the numbcrand location of the springsU said base is left free to move in any direction made necessary by changes in position of the body of the wearer, and at the same time maintains a uniform pressure upon said pad.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention, what I claim as new 1s-- A truss-pad supported upon or by means of a number of spiral springs, which are placed beneath the same near its periphery, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 31st day of March, 1879.
WILLIAM NELSON.
