CURTAIN ROD BRACKET Filed March 29, 1946 FIG 1 FIG 2 Fmamwa A @fl/RH f/WA'WTO/i Patented June 27, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims. 1
This invention relates to improvements in brackets for supporting curtain rods and has for its object to provide a bracket for supporting a curtain rod attached to the lower end of a curtain such as that usually found in connection with the glass part of a door.
It is particularly the object of this invention to provide an adjustable support for a rod attached to one end of a curtain and to support the rod in such a way that it will permit the movement or adjustment of the rod due to the shrinkage of the curtain.
It is a further object of this invention to provide in connection with a, pair of brackets located at one end and the sides of the curtain a clamping member adapted to receive and hold a curtain rod. This clamping member may be shaped to receive either a round or flat rod.
These and other objects and advantages will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows the lower part of a door with the glass therein to which the brackets are attached.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the bracket with a clamp thereon.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the bracket with two clamps thereon, one for holding the fiat end of a rod, and the other for holding the round end of a rod.
The numeral l is used to designate the frame part of a door which has a glass therein. Over this glass part of the door is a curtain 2 supported in any suitable manner at its upper end to a part of the door. The numeral 3 is used to designate the edges of the glass. The lower end of the curtain has therein a rod 4 of any suitable form, shape and material. Usually these rods are flat at their ends so that they will not readily turn or rotate.
Supporting the ends of the rod 4 are brackets 5 shown in detail in Figures 2 and 3. These brackets are usually flat and are about six inches long with their ends ofi-set, as indicated by the numeral 6, to provide supports for the body parts I of the brackets so that the body parts are slightly spaced from the surface to which the brackets are attached.
On the body part I of the bracket is located a U-shaped clamp 8 adapted to fit over the bracket as shown in Figures 2 and 3. In one leg of each clamp is a hole in which there is threaded a clamp screw 9 for gripping a rod and holding the clamp on the bracket. The clamp members 8 are U-shaped with their prongs usually fiat. 5 There is also shown in Figure 3 a form of clamp H! in which one arm of the U-shaped member has a trough or pocket II for receiving One end of a round rod or a rod with a ball on the end of it. In this clamp there is a screw I2 for forcing the end of the rod against the body I for holding the clamp ina fixed and adjusted position on the bracket. The ends of the bracket have holes I3 therein through which screws M pass into the wood of the door or any other surface to which the clamp is attached.
What I claim is: I
1. In a curtain rod bracket, an elongated member having each end off-set for supporting the member on a window frame, a U-shaped rod clamping member on said first named member, said clamping member having a leg engaging said first named member and means in the other leg for adjustably holding said clamping member on the first named member.
2. In a curtain rod bracket, a bracket at each end of the rod, and means on each bracket to engage the end of the rod for clamping it, said means consisting of a U-shaped member fitting over the end of the rod and having one leg engaging the bracket, and a clamping instrumentality in the other leg of said U-shaped member for clamping the rod'to the bracket.
3. In a curtain rod bracket, an elongated member, a U-shaped clamp member on said first named member, one leg of said U-shaped member having a pocket therein for the end of a curtain rod, and means operating in the pocket to clamp the rod against the other leg of the U-shaped member.
