2 Claims. (Cl. 273-139) This invention relates to punchboards, and more particularly to a holder for a punchboard provided with means for recording the number claims, and from the accompanying drawings, I
wherein:
Figure 1 is a rear elevational view of a punchboard and holder in accordance with this invention with parts broken away to show the structure thereof.

Figure 3 is a partial side elevational view of view taken on line 2-2 one top end of a punchboard holder with a 'portion thereof broken away.
Figure 4 is a partial side elevational view of the top end of the punchboard holder at the side opposite to that shown in Figure 3, parts being broken away to show the internal structure.
Figure 5 is a partial plan view of a back plate used in the punchboard holder of this invention.

Referring to the drawings, I designates a punchboard of the conventional type, having the punch-receiving recesses '2 which contain numbered strips of paper folded to form wads.
A holder 3 is provided for said punchboard comprising a housing portion 4 provided with a hinged cover 5, said housing containing a shaft 8 journaled in the side walls of the housing, said shaft carrying a roll of paper 1, as shown, in Figure 2.
Extending from the top portion of housing 4 is an integral rectangular frame portion comprising inwardly facing channel-shaped arms 8, the flanges thereof being spaced apart a distance slightly greater than the thickness of the punchboard I so that the punchboard can be slipped between said arms 8. An integral wall 49 is provided which carries pilot lugs 58 adapted to register, with corresponding recesses provided in the lower edge of punchboardl.
Arms 8 extend substantially the length of punchboard i, one of said arms carrying an end cap 9 hinged thereto. Cap 9 is adapted to engage the top edge of punchboard l to secure the punchboard between the channel-shaped arms 8. The free end of cap 9 isprovided with a hinged member I'll having a slot therein forreceiving a U-shaped hasp ll so that cap 9 may be secured by a padlock. u
At the top of the holder adjacent to .cap 9, the arms 8 are provided with depending rounded members I2 joined by a transverse curved portion [3 forming a housing. Said housing terminates i an inwardly bent straight lip M. An L-shaped transverse member 15 is provided connecting the outer edge portions of depending members I2 to form a narrow transverse slot al-' are positioned, so as to frictionally 'engage'the' paper strip with substantial pressure. One end of shaft I1 is appropriately slotted and the member [2 adjacent theretois provided with appro priate clearance to receive a'key member 2l' for at times rotating roller I8 to withdraw a desired length of paper strip through the outlet slot. v
The other end of shaft l1 carries a ratchet wheel 44, engaged by a spring-biased pawl 45 which restricts said shaft to rotation only in the direction for withdrawing said paper "strip.
As shown in Figure 7, paper roll .1 is supported on shaft 6 which in turn is supported on resilient leaf spring journal supports 22 secured to the side walls of housing 4. Said journal supports 22 exert spring pressure on shaft 6, thereby providing frictional restraint against rotation of said shaft. This insures correct tightness of the paper strip between rollers l8, l9 and 28 and paper roll 1. Said paper strip is maintained flat against the under side of the punchboard by a rigid plate member 23, preferably of medium gauge sheet metal, fitting between members 8 and held in place by the bottom flanges of said members 8, and by transverse rigid strips 24 and 25 secured to said bottom flanges, as indicated in Figure 2.
Plate 23 is provided with perforations adapted to register with the perforations in the punchboard and is further provided with tab elements 26 adapted to abut against wall 49 to properly position said plate 23 with respect to the punchboard.
A perforation is provided in punchboard l and plate 23 to receive a headed aligning pin 28 to positively align said punchboard and plate in proper position for registry of the punch apertures.
As shown in Figure 2, when the board is punched by the conventional punching instrument, the paper strip is cleanly perforated, as shown at 29. The bottom end 21 of plate 23 is curved downwardly slightly to provide a smooth convex guide surface for the paper strip as it comes off roll I.
The paper strip carries a series of numerical markings thereon which identify the sequence of the punchings of various customers.
The proprietor, by inserting key member 2| and rotating board holder has beendisclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention will occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention other than as defined by the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A holder for a punch board comprising a hollow base, a frame structure extending from and supported by said base, said frame structure comprising a pair of inwardly-facing, channelshaped arms supported in substantially parallel relation, two transverse strips extending between said arms, one adjacent each end of said frame, a perforated back plate supported on said strips, and a bottom wall secured between the lower ends of said arms and spaced from the adjacent end of said back plate to provide a narrow slot, an end cap hinged to the end of one arm opposite said base and releasably locked to the corresponding end of the other arm to secure a punch board in said frame, a housing extending transversely of said frame at the end of said back plate remote from said base and having a longitudinal slot therein, a roller journalled in the ends of and extending longitudinally of said housing, and a shaft extending longitudinally of said base having a roll of paper strip thereon, said paper strip extending from said roll through the slot between said frame bottom wall and said back wall, along I the inner side of said back wall between said back wall and a punch board secured in said frame, and trained over said roller and out of the slot in said housing, whereby said strip can be moved between said back wall and the punch board when desired.
2. A holder for a punch board formed with punch holes, said holder comprising a base, a pair of parallel spaced facing channels rising from said base to receive the punch board with the side edges thereof in the channels, an abutment member extending between the lower ends of said channels, upper and lower transverse strips connected to and extending between said channels,
. a backing plate formed with holes corresponding .to the holes in the punch board, said backing plate being positioned in front of and resting against said transverse strips and having a forwardly projecting flange at its lower end adapted to rest upon said abutment member with the lower end of the punch board adapted to rest upon said backing plate flange, a cap hinged to the upper end of one of said channels and adapted when closed to occupy a transverse retaining position across the upper end of the punch board, means releasably locking said cap in its closed position to the upper end of the other channel, a strip of unperforated paper positioned between said backing plate and the back of the punch board adapted to be perforated by an instrument in serted in holes of the punch board and correspondingholes of the backing plate, and means for moving the paper strip after perforation thereof to position an unperforated portion thereof between the backing plate and the punch board, one of said transverse strips being formed with a first positioning hole and said backing plate being formed with a second positioning hole adapted to be registered with said first positioning hole, and a removable pin positioned in said first and second positioning holes and traversing the punch board whereby the backing plate is maintained in position with its punch holes registered with the punch holes of the punch board.
