This invention relates to what I term copy writers of the locked copy type, wherein, in the writing of a sales slip, a copy of the sale is recorded and retained against displacement from the writer. More particularly, the invendevices of the character described which facilitates assemblage and positioning in the writer device, as well as displacement of tickets one at a time therefrom. The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed, and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views I and, in which:

Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic longitudinal section through a locked copy writer device showing one of my improved ticket cartridges arranged there- Fig. l-A is a broken plan view of a ticket detached from the cartridge.

Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view showing a ticket cartridge positioned with respect to a keying means of a writer device and indicating tickets in dot and dash lines.

Fig. 3 is a broken section on the line 33 of Fig. 1; and

Fig. 4 is a perspective detail view illustrating a cartridge and slit portion of tickets with respect to one holding means therefor. In Fig. 1 of the drawing, I have illustrated diagrammatically at Hi the casing of a locked copy writer device, the casing having a large opening H in the top thereof, in which sales tickets, a number of which are indicated at l2 in Fig. 1, are adapted to be arranged one at a time, a pair of protruding pins [3 being disposed on the top wall to enter perforations M at one end of each ticket l2 for positioning the ticket on the device.

The casing ill has, inwardly of the opening II, a table or platform l5, abovewhich is arranged a suitable carbon sheet or strip H5 which is held in position by a bordering frame, part of which is seen at I! in Fig. 1. At I8 is shown the endless copy strip or sheet which passes over the table or platform l5 beneath the transfer or carbon strip or sheet It. The strip I8 is wound upon a suitable spool or rim [9, on one end of the detion deals with a ticket cartridgefor use in writer 2 a hinge door having a suitable key mechanism, diagrammatically illustrated at 22 for retaining the same in closed position.

The end of the casing I0, opposed to the spool [9. has a discharge opening 23, through which the sales tickets l2 are adapted to be dispensed one at a time by the mechanism of the device which again forms no direct part of the present invention. However, in Fig. 1, I have indicated dia-' grammatically at 24 a dispensing roller which engages the uppermost ticket in a ticket cartridge 25 at a point beyond the rearwardly cut end 25 r of this cartridge, note Fig.2. adjacent the end having the aperture 23 therein, two offset key portions 21 which form sockets or recesses 28 for reception of projecting tongues 29 at one end of the cartridge 25.

At this time, it will be well to state that, in loading the cartridge in the casing, it will be apparent that the casing is supported in an inverted positon with the door 2| open and the pro jecting tongues 29 will then seat themselves in vice by suit-ablemechanism, forming no part of the present conception. I

Within the casing is a partition 28 which forms a platform, upon which the sheet I3 is arranged in a folded stack, as seen at It. At 2| is shown the recesses 28. The partition 20 has a pair of apertures 3!! for reception of another pair of key members 3| constituting part of a staple 32 employed for retaining the casing of the cartridge in assembled relationship, as well as the tickets I2 against displacement therefrom.

In Fig.- 2 of the drawing, I have shown a perspective view of the jacket or casing of the cartridge which casing comprises a bottom wall 33 terminating at one end in the projecting tongues or key members 29, the casing having narrow side walls 34, which are bevelled or cut-away as seen at 35 beyond the terminal end 26 of the top wall members 36, the top wall members having strips 31 secured thereto, where the wall members abut to aid in forming the tubular cartridge structures The staple32 is in the form of a long strip of metal having the projecting key members 3| on the cross-head portion thereof and the prong ends 38 of the staple are adapted to be passed through the top wall portions 36 and the bottom wall 33 of the cartridge and, at the same time, pass through triangular-shaped apertures 39 on the tickets l2. Thus the staple ends are bent laterally, as seen at 38' in Fig. 2, in securing the parts in assembled relationship. For sake of clarity, the tickets IE, or the outline thereof, is indicated in dot and dash lines only in Fig. 2. Each of the tickets l2 have slits 4i) opening through the ends thereof and registering with one of the contracted ends or corners M of the diamond-shaped apertures 38, as clearly illus' trated in Figs. ,1-A and 4 of the drawing. controlled lock This construction provides a definite holding of all of the tickets in the cartridge casing while, at the same time, tickets may be removed from the cartridge by the delivery means 24 one at a time by simply drawing the slit portions 40 of the tickets over the thin prongs 38 of the staple 32.

The bottom wall 33 of the cartridge has die cut arm portions 42 formed from the material thereof inwardly of, but adjacent, the end of the cartridge having the tongues 29. These arms 42 are adapted to be pressed in the direction of the top wall portions 36 by curved end portions 43 of a transverse spring 44 which is supported upon the cover 2|. In other Words, a pair of spring fingers are provided on the cover to bear upwardly on the arms 42 adjacent the ticket feed 24, so as to always maintain the uppermost ticket of the cartridge in position for dispensing from the device. After all of the tickets have been consumed, the door 2| can be opened, the old cartridge removed and a new cartridge substituted therefor.

By providing the two pairs of key elements, namely 29 and 3E, on the cartridge and corresponding socket portions in the casing of the device, the cartridge is maintained in definite position in the casing against shifting displacement in any direction. In other words, from a consideration of Fig. 3 of the drawing, it will be apparent that the cartridge is not dependent upon support in side wall portions provided in the casing and, to the contrary, definite clearances are shown between the sides of the casing and the side walls 34 of the cartridge.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a device of the" character described comprising a casing and a plurality of tickets adapted for arrangement in the casing to be dispensed therefrom one at a time, said tickets having, at one end portion thereof, a pair of apertures, the

tickets being slit from the apertures to said end of the tickets, means passed through the apertures of said tickets for normally retaining the tickets in assembled relationship to each other, said means comprising a sheet metal strip forming thin walled members registering with the slits of said tickets, thereby facilitating displacement of the tickets one at a time by moving the slit portions of the tickets over said thin walled members, and said strip having a pair of key members engaging corresponding sockets of the casing in positioning the tickets in said casing.

2. In a device of the character described comprising a casing and a plurality of tickets adapted for arrangement in the casing to be dispensed therefrom one at a time, said tickets having, at

one end portion thereof, a pair of apertures, the tickets being slit from the apertures to said end of the tickets, means passed through the aperturcs of said tickets for normally retaining the tickets in assembled relationship to each other, said means comprising a sheet metal strip forming thin walled members registering with the slits of said tickets, thereby facilitating displacement of the tickets one at a time by moving the slit portions of the tickets over said thin walled members, said strip having a pair of key members engaging corresponding sockets of the casing in positioning the tickets in said casing, a jacket for said tickets, and said jacket and casing having interengaging means for positioning the tickets in said casing.

A ticket cartridge for devices of the character described, said cartridge comprising an envelope having bottom, side and top Wall members enveloping a plurality of tickets, the top of the envelope being opened at one end thereof to expose the tickets therethrough for removal of the tickets one at a time from said envelope, a staple passed through the top and bottom wall portions of the envelope adjacent the other end thereof and through apertures in the tickets in retaining the tickets against deplacement from said envelope, the apertures of the tickets having slits opening through adjacent ends of the tickets facilitating displacement of the tickets over said staple, the staple having a cross-head portion, and said cross-head portion of the staple having outwardly projecting key members.

A ticket cartridge for devices of the character described, said cartridge comprising an envelope having bottom, side and top wall members enveloping a plurality of tickets, the top of the envelope being opened at one end thereof to expose the tickets therethrough for removal of the tickets one at a time from said envelope, a staple passed through the top and bottom wall portions of the envelope adjacent the other end thereof and through apertures in the tickets in retaining the tickets against displacement from said envelope, the apertures 0f the tickets having slits opening through adjacent ends of the tickets facilitating displacement of the tickets over said staple, the staple having a cross-head portion, said cross-head portion of the staple having outwardly projecting key members, and the bottom wall at the f rst named end of the envelope having outwardly projecting tongue members. 7

5, A ticket cartridge for devices of the character described, said cartridge comprising an envelope having bottom, side and top wall members enveloping a plurality of tickets, the top of the envelope being opened at one end thereof to expose the tickets therethrough for removal of the tickets one at a time from said envelope, a staple passed through the top and bottom wall portions of the envelope adjacent the other end thereof and through apertures in the tickets in retaining the tickets against displacement from said envelope, the apertures of the tickets having slits opening through adjacent ends of the tickets facilitating displacement of the tickets over said staple, the staple having a cross-head portion, said cross-head portion of the staple having outwardly projecting key members, the bottom wall at the first named end of the envelope having outwardly projecting tongue members, and the bottom wall of the envelope adjacent the first named end having a pair of flexing arms formed from the material thereof.

In ticket writer devices of the character described, employing a plurality of tickets stored in the casing of the device for dispensing one at a time to be positioned on said casing, a cartridge comprising a jacket with a plurality of tickets retained therein, a staple passed through one end portion of the jacket and tickets, said staple and casing having interengaging means keying the cartridge in said casing, and interengaging means on the casing and jacket for retaining the cartridge and tickets against shifting in the casing.
