Patented Nov. 16, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFlcE PASS BOOK Hughes Hal Hill, Augusta, Ga.
Application October 9, 1936, Serial No. 104,891
slips, credit tickets and vouchers of all sorts affecting the account.
Other objects are to improve the construction of pass books, to enable the ready identification of the account, and to facilitate the use of individual printing plates in connection with the keeping of records pertaining to savings and other accounts.
Further aims and advantages of the invention appear in connection with the following description of illustrative embodiments thereof, reference being made to the accompanying drawing, wherein Fig. 1 is a front view of a portion of a preferred form of savings bank pass book;
Fig. 2 is a cross-section thereof on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view of a part of the inside cover of a bank pass book of slightly modied construction;
Figs. 4 and 5 are cross-sections of the same on the lines 4 4 and 5 5, respectively of Fig. 3, drawn to a larger scale; and
Fig. 6 is a view of a printing plate suitable for use with my invention.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the pass book I is provided with front and back covers II, I2, and blank pages I3 for making notations of the various kinds customary in the business to which the account relates.
The front cover I I has secured to its inside face by means of cement, adhesive tape I8 or other suitable means, a thin metal plate I4 bearing the name and number of the raccount or other identifying matter or information useful in connection with the business. Preferably this identification plate is located behind an opening I vin the cover so as to be visible from the outside.
, The name and other matter desired for record I1 is secured to the inside face of the cover in anyV suitable manner, as by adhesive along two or more oppositeedges, so as to overlie the printing plate and enable the latter to make a permanent record when impressed on a check, slip or voucher.
A roller or press actuated inany convenient manner may be utilized for making the impression. This copying strip is readily replaced when it becomes unserviceable from use, as it is only necessary to strip it olf and put on another.
In the form of device illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, the identification plate I4 is secured in a recess IS made for it in the edge of the opening in the cover, and the copying strip I1 is mounted on a strip 2D of cardboard or celluloid which normally covers and protects the raised characters onV rthe plate but which can be slipped lengthwise in its pocket or guideway 2I within the cover to position the copying strip over the raised characters for printing.
The invention is applicable to all systems cornprising individual pass books and loose tickets or card records wherein the holder of the pass book is required to present the same when making a transaction to identify the account, as it enables the ticket and card or other loose memorandum` of the transaction to be printed with the correct identication'means, thus avoiding error.
Other forms and modes of attachment of the identification plate and copying strip may readily be substituted for those shown, and the invention is not restricted to the particular forms illustrated. The manner of use of the plate Will depend upon the system of which it is a part, as
Will be obvious to those skilled in the banking and accounting art upon seeing the invention.
I claim the following:
1. A pass book containing pages for entering items relating to an individual account comprising front and back covers, one of said covers be- Yinking means at the identification characters to permit the latter to be imprinted on a sheet Within said book. f
3. A pass book containing pages for entering items relating to an individual account comprising front and back covers, one of said covers being vformed to receive a printing plate bearing identication characters corresponding to the account, said cover also carrying a slide provided with inking means for the printing characters and adapted to be shifted from normal position covering said characters to a position exposing said identcation characters to permit the latter to be imprinted on a sheet within said book.
