an improved nail cleaning composition applying device which may be easily held by the. manicurist duringthe nail-c1eaning operation without the manicurist coming in contact with the nail cleaning fluid, whereby the manicurist may wear nail polish while working.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claims, and fromthe accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view, partly in section, of a nail cleaning composition applying device according to this invention.
Figure 2 is a detail vertical longitudinal crosssectional view of the fluid-dispensing end portion of the device of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a bottom View of the fluid-dispensing end portion of the device of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a, vertical cross-sectional view taken on line 4- of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view showing a portion of the clamp.
Referring to the drawings, II designates the barrel portion of the nail cleaning composition applying device forming a handle, said barrel portion being hollow and having a removable end cap I2 for opening the barrel to fill it with nail cleaning fluid. Barrel II is threadedly secured to a relatively short forward section I3 which is formed with an internal axial tubular neck I l. Tubular neck portion I4 contains a longitudinal rod member I5 forming a valve stem which is slidably mounted in the front wall of forward section I3, said rod having a button I6 at its front end and a conical valve element IT at its rear end adapted to cooperate with a valve seat I? formed in the rear wall 3!] of forward section Is to control the admission of c1eaning fluid into tubular portion I4. A coil spring I8 is positioned On rod l5 between head IB and the front wall of forward section I3 to bias valve element IT to a seated position. The lower forward portion of neck I4 is formed with a plurality of openings I9 adapted to allow the nail cleaning fluid to flow outwardly therefrom. Adjacent openings I9, the outer wal1 of forward section "2 I3 is formed with an enlarged opening 25 ap proximately the size and shape of a finger nail in which a cotton pad 2| is adapted to be positioned. Cotton or absorbent pad 2! is removably secured to. forward section I3 by a pair of clamping fingers22, 22, said clamping fingers being upwardly and rearwardly curvedand being loosely. supported on a transverse pin element 23.
The upper endsof fingers'22, 22 project through a slot 24 in thetopwallof forward section It and are formed with top tab portions 25, 25. A coil spring 26 is positioned on pinelement23 between fingers 22, '22and biases said fingersapart.
The ,top wall of forward section I3 is formed ,with dependingjpivot lugsjZl', Z'I belowpin ele- -ment 23, spring.- 26 cooperating with pivot lugs 2 1, 21kto providela co-acting. means foricausing normal clamping action'for fingers 22, 22with respect to the cotton pad I positioned between the lower portions of fingers 22, 22 in the opening 20.
In operation, the head I6 of valve rod I5 is pushed rearwardly allowing cleaning fluid to flow past Valve element I7 into tube I4 and through openings I9 on to the cotton pad 2I. When the cotton pad is saturated with fluid, head I6 is released and the device is applied to the finger nail to be cleaned with a rubbing or wiping action. After the finger nail is cleaned, the cotton pad may be removed by pressing tabs 25, 25 together, thus releasing the clamping members 22, 22 from engagement with the cotton pads A new cotton pad is then inserted between the clamping members 22, 22 and the device is ready for the next cleaning operation.
As shown in Figure 2, a recess 28 is formed in the forward portion of section I3 to receive head I6 when the fluid valve is to be opened. By pressing the forward end of the device with the tip of a finger the head I6 may be pushed inwardly until it is flush with the front end portion of section I3, thus opening the valve.
While a specific embodiment of a manicure removing device has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention other than as defined by the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a nail cleaning composition applying device, a hollow, tubular handle adapted to receive and hold a supply of liquid nail cleaning composition, a forward hollow section secured to the forward end of said handle and in communication with the latter, there being an opening in the wall of said section adjacent the front end thereof, a tubular neck provided with a plurality of spaced openings in the lower portion of its wall adjacent the forward end mounted within the interior of said section, the rear wall of said section being provided with a valve seat, a longitudinal stem slidably mounted in the front wall of said section and extending through said neck, a valve element on the rear end of said stem and adapted to cooperate with said valve seat, resilient means operatively connected to said stem for biasing the valve elements of the latter into seating relation with respect to said valve seat, a pair of clamping fingers arranged within said forward section adjacent the opening in the latter and mounted for movement toward and away from each other for receiving therebetween an absorbent pad positioned in the latternamed opening, and coacting means on said clamping fingers and said forward section for causing normal clamping action of the fingers with respect to said pad when the latter is positioned in the opening of the forward section.
2. In a nail cleaning composition applying device, a hollow, tubular handle adapted to receive &
and hold a supply of nail cleaning composition,
a longitudinal stem slidably mounted in the front wall of said section and extending through said neck, a valve element on the rear end of said stem and adapted to cooperate with said valve seat, resilient means operatively connected to said stem for biasing the valve element of the latter into seating relation with respect to said valve seat, a pair of clamping fingers arranged within said forward section adjacent the opening in the latter and mounted for movement toward and away from each other for receiving therebetween an absorbent pad positioned in the latter-named opening, said clamping fingers being upwardly and rearwardly curved and having their upper ends projecting through the slot in said forward section, hand-gripping means on the ends of the fingers for actuating the latter, and co-acting means on said clamping fingers and said forward section for causing normal clamping action of the fingers with respect to said pad when the latter is positioned in the opening of the forward section.
