This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in shower curtain holders.

Shower curtains associated withbath tubs are usually supported at their upper edge by means of a loop or hem slidable on a horizontal rod supported at itsends in opposite walls and in the general plane of the outer longitudinal edge of a bath tub, and when such curtains are in use they are extended to the end limits of the supporting rod, but there is usually an appreciable space remaining betw'eenthe opposite vertical side edges of the shower curtain and the room walls, with the result that water splashing from a shower spray is not entirely conf ned within the area restricted by the curtain and falls and drips upon the bathroom floor.

It is therefore the primary object of the present invention to rovide a shower curtain holder ancillary to the usual supporting rod and in the form of wall-attached clips or clamps for holding either or both ends of the vertical side edges of the curtain inwardly of the outer side edge of the tub and against the wall or walls adjacent the ends of the tub, with the lower end of the curtain, of course, trailing within the tub s for complete confinement of the shower spray within the confines of the curtain and within the tub.

More specifically, the present invention relates to a shower curtain holder of the foregoing character wherein the holder per se that may be employed in multiple, comprises a vacuum-cup or like device for ready and quick attachment to a wall adjacent the end or ends of the tub and inwardly of the plane of the outer side edge of the tub with the vertical side edges of the shower curtain turned inwardly for confinement in proximity of the wall by said clips.

With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing, and claimed.

In the drawing:

Figure 1 is a fragmentary top plan view of a bath tub with one end set against a wall that is shown in section, the shower curtain also being shown in section with an inturned end thereof held in position adjacent said wall,

Figure 2 is a top plan view of the shower curtam-engaging clip or clamp with the shower curtain fragmentarily illustrated, and

Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.

As shown in the accompanying drawing, the

reference numeral 5 designates a bath tub and the usual upper side flange 6 and an end flange I engaged with the wall 8. The shower curtain 9 of the type supported on an upper overlying horizontal 'rod has the lower edge II! thereof extending into the tub 5 inwardly of the side and end flanges 6 and I of the tub, while the end of the shower curtain in proximity of the wall 8 is turned inwardly as at 9a away from the side flange 6 and to lie adjacent to or in juxtaposition with th wall 8 as shown in Figure l to confine all shower spray water within the tub 5,. The shower curtain 9 has the 'vertical side edge thereof adjacent the wall 8 turned inwardly upon itself and stitched to provide a reinforcing hem I I.

The shower curtain holder that is ancilliary to the usual supporting rod for the curtain comprises a vacuum or suction cup I2 formed of rubber or like material common to such devices, and the suction-cup I2 includes a head l3 of increased cross-sectional area that may well be employed as a hand-grip in the manipulation of the suction-cup for placing the same in engagement with the wall 8 and separation therefrom.

A reversely curved spring arm Id is carried by the head I3 of the suction-cup, one end I5 thereof being adapted for engagement with the inwardly turned end 9a of the shower curtain for holding the same in contact with the wall 8, while the other end I6 of the spring arm is anchored in the head I3 of the suction-cup.

As shown more clearly in Figures 2 and 3, the head l3 of the suction-cup is provided with a side opening slot I1 and the bottom wall of the slot is provided with a depressed portion defining a shoulder I8. The anchored end it of the spring arm has a resilient tongue it struck out therefrom with the tongue directed downwardly and having its free end directed toward the curtain-clamping end I5 of the spring arm so that when the spring arm is mounted in the side opening slot IT in the head I3, the struck-out resilient tongue I9 will have its free end positioned for engagement with the abutment shoulder I8 to prevent withdrawal of the spring arm from the suction-cup. It will be understood that the side opening slot I? may be devoid of the abutment shoulder I8, presenting a flat bottom wall and resilient tongue I9 will bite into the bottom wall of th slot when the end Iii of the spring arm I4 is in fully seated position to prevent withdrawal of the spring arm.

From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and use'thereof will at once be apparent, it being noted that the curtain-engaging end l of the spring arm is engaged with the end portion 9a of the shower curtain 9 inwardly of the hem II and, as illustrated, to prevent accidental disengagement of the shower curtain from the spring clips, and that any number of the curtainholding devices may be employed in vertically spaced relation for the retention of the shower curtain properly positioned and for holding the lnturned end 9a thereof in engagement with the wall 8 for confining the shower spray to the tub.

From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent, and while there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new, is:

1. The described suction-anchored device for holding a shower curtain or the like, and which comprises a body composed of resilient material providing a concavity in the front face arranged and adapted to function as a Suction cup and having the back face centrally thickened and projected rearwardly as a boss-like head, and a leaf spring having a tang-end socketed in said head with its other end projecting laterally therefrom and acting by said projecting end to exert a yielding pressure against a surface to which the suction cup is attached, the socket for said tang-end being open to the side of the head and having an internal inwardly facing 4 s shoulder, said tang-end having a resilient finger struck from the body proper thereof and arranged to snap automatically into locking engagement behind said shoulder by the act of inserting the tang-end into the socket.

2. The described suction-anchored device for holding a shower curtain or the like, and which comprises a body composed of resilient material providing a concavity in the front face arranged and adapted to function as a suction cup and having a boss-like head made a permanent and secure part thereof and projected rearwardly from the cup part, and a leaf spring having a tang-end socketed in said head with its other end projecting laterally therefrom and acting by said projecting end to exert a yielding pressure against a surface to which the suction cup is attached, the socket for said tang-end being open to the side of the head and having an internal inwardly facing shoulder, said tang-end having a finger struck from the body proper thereof and arranged to lodge behind said shoulder by the act of inserting the tang-end into the socket, thereby to lock the tang-end against disengagement from the socket.
