This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in picture hangers, and the principal object is to provide a device for attachment to the back side of a picture frame which, while serving to sufficiently space the picture from the wall, will eliminate the necessity of providing unsightly picture wires and similar fixtures.
During the course of the following specification, other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader.
In the drawing:-
Figure 1 represents a back side elevational view of the hanger.
Figure 2 represents an edge elevational view of the device.
Figure 3 represents an enlarged vertical sectional view through the hanger.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the hanger consists of a plate 5 having openings therein to receive securing elements 6 for attaching the plate to a picture frame 7. This plate 5 has a reduced extension 8 which merges with a circular portion 9 having a substantially circular-shaped opening 10 therein. This circular portion 9 is of outwardly flaring construction, while the reduced portion 8 is provided with a slot 11 merging with the substantially circular opening 10.
Thus it can be seen that when the plate 5 is secured to the back side of a picture frame and a nail has been driven into the wall at the place where the picture is to be supported, and the head of the nail is protruding sufficiently from the wall, the hanger can be placed over the head of the nail so that the shank of the nail will seat in the slot 11. The head of the nail is the part first inserted through the circular opening 10.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
