liix'rrrarr OFFICE.

HANGER.
T all ywhom, it lmuy concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLns F. ERICKSON, a subject of the Kilwof Sweden, residing at New York city, in the county ot' New York and State of New York, have invented new aud useful Improvements in Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hangers and has for its primary object the provision of a means for supporting a picture from the wall of a room without marrlng or detacing the wall as caused by the use of screws, nails or other like elements, and which may also be used as a garment hanger, or on a lixture bracket for attaclunent to windows or the like.
l Another object of the invention is to provide a hanger which is easily and quickly applied to the'wall and when so applied, the same is capable of supporting a relatively heavy weight. p
A further object resides in the construction of a picture hanger which is simple in construction, cheap of manufacture and highly ornamental and attractive in appearance.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention complete.
Figure 2 is a. plan view of the body member.
Figure 3 is a sectional view attaching disk.
Figure 4 is a sectional body member.
Figure 5 is a sectional view through a modilied form of my invention.
Figure 6 is a plan view of the body member of the modilication shown in Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a plan view of a further modilied form.
Figure Sis a sectional view on the line 8--8 of Figure 7. l
Heretofore, it has been the practice of supporting; pictures from the walls of a room by driving nails or the like into the walls which tends to mar and deface the through the view through the wall paper, and when the nail'is removed the same usually leaves a hole which is unappncaaon and :une e, 1924. serial No. 718,382.
`jections and which is easy to apply to the wall. 55
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the reference numeral 10 designates my improved hanger in its entirety and which .is 'constructed of two parts, namely a supporting part 11 and an attaching part 12. 7"
The part 11 is formed of a single Jicce of metallic material which includes a liody 13 formed with an annular flange 14 which is bent or spun from the edge of the body.. The body of the part 11" is cut out to form 75 an youtwardly extending hook 15 for receiving the wire or other hanging member of thev picture, the said hook being concavoconvex in cross section to strengthen the same.
The part 12 constitutes a felt disk 16 which is providedwith an adhesive 17 on one side .and an adhesive 18 on the opposite side thereof. The disk is applied to the y back of the body 13 of the part 11 by moist- 8" ening the adhesive side 17 and pressing the two parts together. Although I have mentioned the part 12 as being constructed of felt, it is to be understood that the same may be of paper or other similar material if desired. The thickness of the disk is such as to slightly project beyond the edge of the flange to permit the same to yield when applying the hanger to the wall, but the flange serves to prevent undue spreading of the disk during the yielding movement thereof.
Then applying the hanger to a wall or like structure, the adhesive side 18 is moistened and placed againstthc wall in a position where it is desired to hang the picture. After being left to dry a few moments, the hanger is suciently strong as to permit the picture to be-hung therefrom. If desired, the adhesive 18 can be covered by a paper 105 disk to preserve the adhesive until the hanger is to be used, and said paper disk may bear suitable instructions for applying the hanger to a Wall. It will also be appreciated that the hangers may be made up of different colors to match the furnishings or wall paper of a room.
In Figures 5 and 6 there is shown a. slight modiiication wherein the body 13 is formed with an opening 19, arranged eccentric with relation to the center of the body. A. removable picture hook 20 has one of its e. tremities inserted through the openings between the disk 16 and the back o1 the body. The remainder of this form is identical to the construction of the preferred form and a further description is therefore not deemed necessary. I
In Figures 7 and 8 there has been shown a further modiiication wherein the metallic body member has been dispensed with. In this form, the numeral 21 designates a felt or paper disk similar to the disk 16 of the preferred form which has its rear surface covered With an adhesive 22. A supporting hook 23 is riveted'to the 'front face of the disk as at 24C and serves the same ypurpose as the hooks 15 and 20. In this form the back of the disk is moistened and secured to the Wall as hereinbefore mentioned.y
I Wish it to be understood that I do not limit myself to the shape of the hanger, al-
though the same has been shown as circular in plan it may be convenient and attractive to makethe same of various shapes.
While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment 0f my inf vention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied vvithout in any Way departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein vSet forth nor to anything less than the Whole of my invention limited only by the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is A hanger comprising a body member having an annular flange, a yieldable disk seated within the annular flange and adhesively secured to the back of said body member, an adhesive surface formed on the exterior face of said disk, and a supporting hook stamped from said body member and extending frorn the front of the same.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
CHARLES F. ERICKSON.
