Description

(No Model.)
s. W. BATTY. PORTABLE WASHSTAND.
Patented Oct. 29, 1895.
I v J WITNESSES:
1mm ST TES].
PATENT OFFIC SAMUEL WESLEY BATTY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
PORTABLEWASHSTA-ND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 549,049, dated October 29,1895. Application filed June 25,1895. Serial No. 553,963- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.
Be it known that], SAMUELWESLEY BATTY,
a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented anew and usef ul Improvement in Portable Washstands, which improvementis fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a portable washstand which is readily attachable to and detachable from a wall or other support, more particularly in proximity to a bath-tub, being adapted to be folded, the construction being hereinafter more fully set forth,
Figure 1 represents a partial side elevation and partial vertical section of a portable washstand embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a top or plan view of the same. Fig. 3 represents a front view of a detached portion. 7
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a vertical plate which is secured to the wall B, adjacent to a bath-tub if so desired, so that the basin employed may be over said tub. O designates openings in said plate, the same being in communication with openings D in said wall, the openings D being of greater depth than the openings 0.
E de'signateshooks which are secured to the back of the frame or body F and adapted to enter the openings 0 and D and engage with the walls of the openings 0.
In the front of the body F are openings G, which are adapted to receive the hooks H, which project rearward from the vertical limbs of the brackets K,it being noticed that the horizontal limbs of said brackets are spread apart sufficiently to receive between them and support a basin, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1. The several openings and hooks are of angular form in cross-section, so that the latter are prevented from turning in the former.
In the upper Wall of the body F is an opening L to receive the stem N of the soap-holder P.
In order to locate the parts, the body F is applied to the wall and the hooks E inserted in the openings 0 and D and lowered, whereby the vertical limbs of said hooks engage with the back of theplate A below the openings O, thus interlocking the body with the plate, and consequently with the wall, and re By raising the brackets the hooks H disengage from the body F and the former may be removed. By raising said body the hook E disengages from the plate A and said body may be removed. The soap-holder may also be removed and the several parts may be placed together in compact form, convenient for handling, transportation, storage, &c.
The front and rear sides of the body F are flat, so as to prevent the same turning on the plate A and prevent turning of the bracket on said body.
In order to adapt the bracket to be folded or packed in small compass, I form the same in sections independent of each other, as most plainly seen in Fig. 2, each section being provided with hooks H for attachment to the body F.
The body F is made hollow, or partly hollow, to receive the hooks H of the brackets K.
When the plate A is dispensed with, I may employ the eyes shown in dotted lines, Fig. 3, for connecting the body F with the wall by means of screws passed through said eyes into the wall.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure'by Letters Patent, is-
l. A portable wash stand consisting of the attaching plate A havingopenings O therein, the hollow frame F, the rear face of which is provided with the hooks E adapted to enter said openings 0, the front of said frame being provided with the openings G, and the bracket K having its inner ends secured in said openings G, and formed of horizontal limbs which are spread apart and adapted to hold a basin, substantially as described.
2. A portable wash stand having a hollow frame with hooks on its rear face and openings ICC in its fr0nt,-and brackets having verticallimbs I secured to said front face and spreading hori- 1a with hooks entering said openings, and 'prozontal limbs, said frame having an opening in vided with separate horizontal limbs adapted its top for the stem of a soap holder, sub- 7 to embrace a basin, said parts being combined stantially as described.
substantiall as described. 5 3. A port ble bracket having a frame with SAMUEL WESLEY BAT1 flat front and rear faces, hooks on said rear Witnesses; face and openings in said front face, in com- J OHN A. WIEDERSHEIM, bination with brackets having vertical limbs R. H. GRAESER.
