Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented ann-139- tnt15@ Application led April 28, 19111. Serial No. @35,6171
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that l, LYNN H. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Escanaba, in the county of Delta and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful improvements in Soap-Holders, of which the following is a'specification. r,
An object of the invention is to provide a soap holder which can be readily used in connection with afbasin or tub and which is adapted to hold the usual cake of soap in such a manner that after the same has been used the water will readily be drained therefrom in order to keep the soap in good condition and prevent the same from becoming soft and unusable.
rThe invention contemplates, among other features, the provision of a soap holder in the nature of a tray which can be conveniently attached to a wall over a basin or tub and which will hold the soap free from Contact with the water and will permit any water on the soap to be lreadily drained therefrom.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be ,had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in. all the views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view ofthe soap holder; liig. 2 is a vertical transverse seetional view taken' through thesoap holder, the dotted lines indicating the raised position of the tray; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional View showing the manner of pivoting the tray in the dish; and Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken through one of the stop members, showing the manner of limiting the swinging movement of the tray. Fig. 5 is a sectional view through a portion of the tray.
Referring more particularly to the views, lf disclosea soap holder 10 which consists of a dish or receptacle 11 having a supporting back or plate 12 forming a part of the receptacle and preferably provided with a if plurality of openings 13, 4whereby the dish or receptacle can be supported on a wall. The dish 11 is provided with a plurality of vent apertures 14 preferably arranged in rows on the ends of the receptacle and arranged to swing .within the receptacle is a 'tray 15. The tray can be' struck or formed fromv a single piece of material to provide a Series of transverse drain channels 16 and 'the tubular member whereby. the tray will be arranged to swing within the dish or receptacle. Projecting into the receptacle from the front thereof are a plurality of stop members 19 which can also be in the nature of rivets or pins and upon which the front or free end of the tray is adapted to repose in order to hold the tray in spaced Vrelation to the bottom of the dish or receptacle. l
A spring-like locking member 20 is secured to the front edge of the tray at its medial portion and is adapted to engagea front edge 21 of the dish or receptacle to hold the tray in locked position in the dish or receptacle, said front edge 21, as well as the side edges 22 of the dish or receptacle, being preferably curved or in the nature of ribs to present a neat and eective appearance, while at the same time the front curved or ribbed edge will afford a convenient means to be engaged by the locking member, said locking member having its free end terminating in ahook 23 which engages the said ribbed edge, as shown and set forth.
Now if it is desired to swing the tray into an open position in order to empty the dish or receptacle from any water that may have accumulated therein or drained from the soap previously supported on the tray, .the locking member 20 is disengaged from the /front ribbedv edge 21 and the tray can then be swung upwardly so that a medial portion of the locking member will engage the upper edge 24 of the back or plate 12, thus holding the tray in raised position so"-that the water contained in the dish or receptacle can be removed therefrom or the dish or receptacle readily cleaned. To this end the medial portion of the locking member is provided with a notch 25 into which extends a portion of the upper edge 24: when the tray is raised, as mentioned.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that when the tray is in its lowered position it will be inclined so that the Water .will readily drain from the soap reposing upon the tray and it will also be seen that the said holder is of a simple movement in the receptacle, and a springlike latch engaging the front edge of the receptacle to secure the tray in locked position therein, said latch being adapted to engage the upper end of the back when the tray is swung upwardly to lie against the back. y
In testimon whereof I affix my signature in presence o two Witnesses.
