Description

\ (Moden H, B', WEILAN'D.
v PUWDBR HOLDER.
` Patented Deo. 6,1881.
NA PETER Phmvmhngnpher. wasm nnnnnnn C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HARRY B. WEILAND, OF LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
POWDER- HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 250,408, dated December 6, 1881.
Application led August 10, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY B. WEILAND, of Lancaster, in the county ot' Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Powder-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in powder-holders which are intended especially for jewelers, and it consists in a hat disk having a concave surface and a groove made in its top around its outer edge, and which is divided into equal parts by two partitions which cross each other at right angles, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The object of my invention is to provide a holder for different grades of powders which have been mixed with oil and are ready for use, and which will allow any one of the powders to be readily gotten at.
Figure lisa plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. f
A represents ailat disk, of any desired width, and made of any suitable material, and which has the center of its surface made concave, as shown, so that after the powders have been mixed with oil and placed in the separate cornpartments made for them they will run down to the center ofthe plate. Around the outer edge of this disk is made a groove, B, which serves to catch any of the oil or powder which may be drawn out toward the edge of the disk in taking some of any one of the grades of powder for use. Extending across the top of this disk are the two partitions D, which intersect each other, preferably at right angles, and di- (Model.)
vide the concave surface of the disk into four compartments, each one of which willreceive a separate grade of polishing-powder mixed with oil ready for use. The lower edges of this partition are inserted into grooves which are made in the top surface of the disk, and in which they iit as tightly as possible, not only for the purpose of holding them securely in place, but to prevent the powders in the different compartments from mixing together.
A different grade of polishing-powder being placed in each compartment, the operator, having the holder placed before him in the most convenient position, can select any gratie of powder that he may desire. The groove in the top of the disk will serve to a great extent to prevent any waste which would occur in using any one of the grades of powders by drawing it outward over the edge of the disk. When the holder is not in use it may be placed upon a suitable stand and covered over, so as to protect the powders from dust and dirt.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. In a powder-holder, the combination of a disk having a concave top surface and provided with a groove in the top surface with the partitions, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. p
2. In a powder-holder, the combination of a disk having a concave surface upon its top with suitable partitions for separating the surface into different compartments, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY B. WEILAND.
