aim 2o UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALONZO FRANK RICHARDSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
POCKETPILL-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 564,103, dated July 14, 1896.
Application filed February 15, 1896. Serial No. 579,370. (N 0 model.)
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALoNzo FRANK RICH=- ARDSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Pill-Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to pocket vessels or boxes for holding pills, pellets, and other similar articles; and its object is to provide an improved construction of the same, by means of which the articles can be securely held therein without liability of spilling out, yet which can be readily removed, when desired, by rotating the top or bottom thereof.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed. 2
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the parts comprising the box detached.
In the said drawings, the reference-numeral 1 designates the bottom of the box consisting of a circular metal plate or disk having its edge upset, forming an upwardly-extending flange 2, which engages by frictional contact with downwardly-extending flanges 3 of a circular metal plate 4. The flanges of these two plates should engage tightly with each other, and plate 4, near the edge, is formed with a circular hole 5.
The numeral 6 designates a circular top plate having a downwardly-depending flange 7, which engages with the flange 2, so that when said top and bottom plates are in place,
the edges of the flanges thereof will meet and but is not connected with, the bottom plate 1, thereby preventing said plates from being pressed inward or toward each other, yet allowing the bottoming to be removed for filling the box.
From the above it will be seen that the de vice consists of but four parts, namely, the plates 1, 4, and 6, and the pivot 9, thus enabling it to be produced at a comparatively small cost.
In using the device, it is turned upside down and the bottom plate detached, the holes in plates 4 and 6 first being thrown out of registerwith each other by turning or rotating plate 6. The plate 4, which, with its flange, forms the body of the box, is then filled with pills or other articles, and the bottom is put on, which, engaging tightly with the said body, will be held in place by frictional contact without liability of being accidentally disengaged. To withdraw the articles the bottom plate is held by one hand and the top plate rotated or turned by the other hand until the openings or holes 5 and 9 register with each other, when the pills can be shaken or allowed to drop out.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- I As an improved article, a pill or other box or vessel consisting of the circular bottom plate having its edge turned upwardly forming an annular flange, the circular plate having its edge turned downwardly forming a flange engaging with the flange of the bottom plate by frictional contact, and said plate formed with an opening near its edge, the circular top plate having an opening adapted to register therewith, and its edge turned downwardly forming an annular flange, the edge of which abuts against the edge of the bottom flange, and the pivot stud or pin passing centrally through said top plates and bearing against but disconnected from the bottom plate, substantially as described.-
In'testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALONZO FRANK RICHARDSON.
