VILLIAM MCELVEE, OF SHELBYVILLEQINDIANA.
IMPROVED KITCHEN-SAFE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM MCELWEE, of Shelbyville, in the county of Shelby and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Kitchen-Safes; and I do hereby declare that the following -is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in Which- Figure 1 represents a vertical elevation of the safe, showing the exterior of the saine. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken through the center of the safe.
The nature of my invention consists in mounting the body of the safe upon the hol- Alow posts extending from the iioor to the top of the saine, provided with water-cups near the bottoni of each leg` and perforated so as' or other suitable material and secured to hollow posts B B B B, which proceed down from each corner of the body and form legs, so that the safe may be elevated the proper distance above the Hoor. Upon each of these legs are fixed cups D, surrounding the saine for holding water, so as to prevent ants and other insects getting into the safe through the holes E E E E, which are inlet-passages for the fresh air to pass up the hollow posts B and into each compartment and through openings F F, as indicated by the arrows of Fig. 2. The air from each compartment passes up through Wire-net openings G in the shelves J and out at top of the safe, as shown by the arrows. NVit-h these hollow posts the safe can be manufactured at a Inuch less cost than when the ventilation is obtained by perforating the sides.

The combination and arrangement ol hollow posts B, with water-cups D, arranged in the manner and for the purpose specified.
