Specification of Letters Patent No. 29,319-, dated July 24:, 1860.

To all whom "it may concern.

Be it known that I, ISAAC R. SHANK, of Buffalo, in the county of Putnam and State of Virginia, have invented a new and Improvedv Combined Flour-Chest and Biscuit- Board; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a longitudinal vertical section taken through the middle of my chest and biscuit board, showing the two compartments and the arrangement of the board on top of the same, and under the chest cover. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section taken through the chest, showing the longitudinal bars upon which the biscuit board rests.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.

This invention is an improvement in the combined biscuit board and chest, for which Letters Patent were granted to me the 26th day of July, 1859; and in this improvement I have made the parts much more simple and less expensive, while the same ends are attained asin my present patent.

To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.

In the drawings, A represents a quadrangular box or chest which may be made of any suitable size or capacity, having a cover B, which is hinged to one side on top, and tits down on the chest closely.

B is a front board secured to the edge of the cover B, which closes a space in the front of the chest between the edge of the chest and the cover B, as shown by Fig. 2, of the drawing'.

This chest stands on four feet and is divided into two apartments by a central partition C, the top edge of which is beveled off so as to present a sharp edge, as shown by a, Fig. l.

D, D are two longitudinal bars which extend from end to end of the chest, with their top edges on a plane with the edge of the partition C, and beveled off as shown by Fig. 2; these bars D, D, are set some distance from the front and back sides of the chest.

The cover B, is prevented from falling back when opened by a bracket E, and from shutting down by a prop stick F.

Gr, G are perforated plates which are let into t-he ends of the chest just under the cover B, for admitting fresh air into the top part of the chest.

H, H are boards which rest on the edges of the bars D, D, and partition C, and when placed in the chest properly their surface is flush with the edge of the front side of the chest. The board H, is the biscuit board and this extends from one end of the chest over the partition, some distance. The board or strip H, fits snugly in place, and is provided with a knob c, by which it may be lifted up for obtaining access to the compartment below. The biscuit board is intended to remain in the chest, and moved from one end to the other of the chest, while the spaces of either side are to be closed by the secondary board H, which is made to fit equally well either end of the chest. The edges of the boards are beveled inward so as to tit closely and prevent flour, etc., from clogging up the parts and causing them to work hard.

The beveling of the edges of the partition and bars D, I), as before described, will not Aallow flour to lodge on these edges and prevent the boards from fitting down closely.

The employment of board H, with its handle c, will allow the person working at the chest to obtain access to either apartment by removing this board and sliding the biscuit board to either one side or to the other and by this simple means the levers and thumb pins used in my patented invention may be dispensed with, and, at the same time, obtain the desired ends.

Having` thus described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The arrangement as shown and described of the biscuit board H, movable board H, angular supports D, ventilators G, partition C, box A, and hinged top B.
