PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. RITER, OF BROWNSVILLE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHILDRENS CRADLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,737, dated January 16, 1872.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Beit knownthat I, JOHN L. RITER,ofBrowns ville, in the county of Union and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Cradles for Children; and I do herebv declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference beinghad to the annexed drawing making-a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a side elevation of my improved cradle. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same.
This invention has relation to an improvement in childrens cradles; and consists in covering the entire top and sides with a wire screen, so as to prevent insects, rats, cats, snakes, or the like from injuring the child, and at the same time allow a free passage of air through the cradle.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents a cradle of ordinary construction. B is a convex top, consisting of a wire screen. It is secured to a hinged frame, C, and hence may be raised and let down. The frame C is planned according' to the shape of the upper edge of the cradle A, and is designed to make a tight joint therewith. The hinges d are hooks and eyes, arranged to permit the removal of the top. D represent wire screens closing the sides and ends of the cradle. 'Ihese screens may be applied to any kind of cradle, and are eiectual in preventing the access of insects, reptiles, or animals to the child.
I claim as of my invention- The cradle herein described, provided with the wire-gauze sides and ends, and the hinged removable wire-gauze top B extending the full length ofthe cradle, and making a tight joint with the upper edge of its frame, as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses:
Witnesses: JOHN L. RITER.
