Application November 30, 1945, Serial No. 632,037
1 Claim.
My invention as described herein, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, consists of an ash dispenser, an object of which is to provide means whereby cigarette, cigar and pipe ash may be permanently disposed of when brushed or knocked from the article upon which it is formed.
Another object of my invention is to provide means on the arm rest of an automobile whereby ash may be permanently disposed of.
A further object of this invention is to provide in connection with an arm rest of an automobile a passage opening under the car and an arm rest forming a closure for the passageway.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure l is a diagrammatic elevational view embracing my invention,
Figure 2 is a greatly enlarged vertical sectional view of an arm rest pedestal embracing my invention, the hereinafter referred to elongated head being removed;
Figure 3 is a similar view, parts being shown in changed position; and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view, taken on the line 4-4 in Figure 2.
In the accompanying drawings, and in the following specification, the same reference characters are used to designate the same parts and elements throughout and in which ll indicates an automobile and 52 indicates a seat therein. At the end of the seat is a tubular pedestal, the lower end Hi of which opens out under the floor iii of the car. The upper end N5 of the pedestal is provided with an elongated head l'l, upon which is a slidable top plate closure it, having a knob 8 at one end 20 thereof. Pivoted to the end 20 of the under surface of the member I8, is an inflexible arm 2|. A pin 24 integrally connects the arm 2| and a second plate closure member 25, said pin operating in the frontal slot of a bracket member 26, fixed to the inner wall 2?, of said pedestal. The bracket is also provided with opposing side slots 28, through which the terminals of the pin 24, project. The arm 2! is disposed normal to the second plate closure member 25. The bracket 26 includes a base plate 30 extending across a portion of the inside surface of the pedestal adjacent said top plate closure 18, and the side slots are defined by a pair of laterally disposed vertical straps 32 which may be secured to the pedestal by screws also used to hold the base plate 30 in place.
From the foregoing it will be seen that upon sliding the top plate l8, forward as indicated in Figure 3 the mouth of the pedestal will be opened up for receiving ashes or other small debris and upon opening the same, the arm 2!, will be brought to vertical position and the plate 25 to horizontal position whereby the passage to the pedestal will be closed in order to prevent updraught while the said slide 18, is in open position and whereby when the slide is again closed the debris on the plate 25, which may be of any desired width, will be dumped from the plate 25 to be dropped through the lower end it, of the pedestal. It is, of course obvious, that the slide 58, may be provided with a padded cushion (not shown).
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described my invention that which I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
The combination of a vehicle body floor and an ash dispenser comprising a tubular pedestal extending through said floor, a sliding top plate closure for said pedestal, a second plate closure member having a vertically slidable pivotal connection with said pedestal and disposed intermediate the ends of and within said pedestal, an inflexible arm having one end fixed to said second plate and the other end pivoted on the underside of said sliding closure to close said pedestal when said sliding closure is moved into fully opened position, whereby updraft of air is prevented when said sliding closure is open, said arm being substantially normal to said second closure member.
