Description

Feb. 7, 1950 M. w. MACREADIE POCKET GLOVE Filed May 2, 1947 IN V EN TOR.
ATTOfi/YKVJ w A i R M M W n a M w I Patented Feb. 7, 1950 POCKET GLOVE Margaret W. Macreadie, wlnnipel', Manitoba, Canada Application May 2, 1947, Serial No. 745,40}
(Cl. z160) 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to gloves, and more particularly to a glove having a pocket for the purpose of keeping change, keys and other small articles.
Some attempts have been made in the prior art to fabricate gloves having pockets therein, but in all such cases the resulting articles have been cumbersome and unsightly, and the positioning of the pockets has prevented full use of the thumb and fingers.
Accordingly, it is a principal object of this invention to construct a glove having a pocket that is so positioned that it will not interfere in any way with the use of the thumb and fingers.
Another object of the invention is to provide a glove of the type described, wherein the pocket is not noticeable from the outside, or at most only the closure for the pocket is visible.
Other objects will appear to those skilled in the art from a reading of the accompanying papers.
The drawings illustrate a preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is understood that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Figure 1 represents a front or palm view 01' a left-hand glove having a pocket constructed in accordance with the principles of the invention.
Figure 2 is a view of the same glove, palm down, with the upper half of the glove broken away to show the construction of the pocket.
Figure 3 is a vertical section taken along the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a back view of a left-hand glove showing the construction of a back pocket.
Figure 5 is a view of a similar pocket, a portion thereof being broken away, and showingthe closure member for the pocket on the inside of the glove.
It will be observed that Figure 1 shows a lefthand glove .flror a conventional appearance. This invention, of course, is applicable to all types and sizes of gloves and mittens, for either or both hands. The glove comprises a palm side II and a back side 12.
\ The pocket is constructed of two pieces, I5 and i 6, of leather, fabric or other materials, sewn together along three sides. The mouth of the pocket is joined to a suitable opening in the palm II oi the glove It by means of a suitable slide fastener 20. Consequently, the slide fastener 20 will be the only visible evidence of an internal pocket. Inside, however, the sides of the pocket may be fastened to the glove by means of the side stitching, or the stiching surrounding the thumb hole, or by both.
The pocket is so designed that it does not extend beyond the articulation of the phalanges with the inetacarpals, so that the use of the finger in grasping will no be interfered with.
In Figure 4 is shown a. pocket having its mouth attached to a slide fastener 2| in an opening in the back I 2 of the glove. Here again the sides of the pocket may be attached to the glove by means of the side stitching, but there is no transverse stitching or other indicia. to reveal the presence of the pocket.
If desired, the back pocket may be attached to the inside or the glove, as indicated in Figure 5, so that the slide fastener 22 is wholly within the glove. In this modification, one portion of the pocket is attached to the glove by the transverse stitching at the very end of the glove, so
as that there is'no external evidence whatsoever of visible fastener, as indicated in Figure 5.
What is claimed is:
In a glove comprising a back portion and a palm portion provided with a transverse slit and a thumb aperture, the said back and palm portions being joined together by side stitching and finger stitching, two superposed pieces of material of substantially identical width as the glove and provided with coinciding thumb apertures, stitching along three sides of the pieces of material to form a pocket with an open mouth adjacent to the transverse slit, the said pocket being secured to the back and palm portions by the side stitching and positioned within the glove with the thumb aperture in the pocket coinciding with the thumb aperture in the palm portion, a
continuous row of stitching extending substantiaily entirely around said coinciding apertures for securing the pocket to the palm portion adjacent to the thumb. and a slide fastener secured within the transverse slit of said palm portion 5 and stitched to the open mouth of the pocket.
