Description

July 22, 1 R. BOEHM-MYRO HAND COVERING Fild June 24. 1948 Invnlor Re Ber? 80 ehm -M ro Patented July 22, 1952 Application June 24, 1948, Serial No. 34,928 I In Switzerland July 9, 1947 This invention relates to gloves and'like hand coverings and concerns an improvement in the hitherto proposed hand coverings of the kind comprising an inner glove having separate stalls for the fingers and the thumb and an outer member in the form of a mitten connected to the wrist of the glove in a fixed or detachable manner and having its front and back portions above the wrist connected at the edges or any other suitable place by a zip fastener (otherwise called a sliding clasp'fastener) or other suitable closing meanswhich can be released to enable these portions to be rolled or folded back to form a cuff and'so to expose thewhole of the inner glove except the wrist. I g
The invention has for its purpose to provide an improved handcovering of the above kind.
To this end, according to the invention, a pocket is formed in the outer member or mitten of a hand covering of the kind referred to.
Conveniently the opening of the pocket lies within the mitten when closed over the inner glove so that, under these conditions, the mitten itself constitutes a safety closure for the pocket positively preventing loss of articles which may be placed in the pocket even if such articles should inadvertently slip through the opening of the pocket. Thus, the opening of the pocket may or may not be provided with its own closing means.
Preferably the pocket is formed in the wall of the mitten lying adjacent to the palm of the glove but in any case the mitten is conveniently provided with a lining, in which case the pocket is formed in or constituted by the space between the outer wall and the lining of the mitten.
The invention may be carried into practice in various ways but one form of hand covering according to the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the hand covering with the mitten in its closed position,
Figure 2 shows the hand covering with the front and back portions of the mitten rolled back to form a cuff to the inner glove which is concealed by the mitten in Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a cross-section on the line 3-3 of Fi ure l.
In the form of the invention shown inthe drawings the hand covering comprises a bag-like mitten composed of leather, fabric, waterproof fabric or other suitable material including a front portion A provided with a separate thumb stall A and having its upper and outer edge arranged to be connected to the similar edges of a back s Claims. (01.2 158) portion B by means of a zip fastener C. This fastener, which has. the usual slide actuating member C ,-eXte nds from a point approximately aboveythe first finger, along'the top of the mitten,
a lining of fur, wool, or other warm material,
in theexample illustrated a furlining indicated at G being employed and the thumb stall A being similarly lined. I 1 I When the "zip fastener C is fully opened" the front and back portions of the mitten can be turned backwards, in this way being reversed, and
form-a fu'rcu'ff as clearly shown in Figure2, leaving exposed the inner glove E as far as the wrist so that the wearer can have free use of the thumb and fingers; The inner glove with the cuff thus formed makes a gauntlet, the cuff portion of which may be worn over or within the coat sleeve. The opening to the thumb stall A of the mitten will not be noticeable because the thumb stall is lined with the same fur as the portions A and B while the empty thumb stall is concealed since it lies fiat below the cuff.
In some cases a strap or tab fastener (not shown) might be provided to cause the cuff to grip the wearers sleeve or wrist but if, as is preferred, the mitten is provided with an elastic insert, as indicated at H in Figure 1, it is usually unnecessary to provide any separate fastening device for the cuff.
Formed in what is the inner front wall A of the mitten when closed over the hand, as shown in Figure 1, is a pocket opening or slit indicated at A and having its edges bound, stitched with button-hole stitching, or otherwise reinforced. This slit opens into a pocket formed merely by the space between the outer wall and lining of the part A of the mitten or a pocket of more restricted size may be provided as indicated at A Such a restricted pocket may either be formed from additional material or may be formed by stitching the outer wall and lining of the part-A to one another along the line A In the arrangement shown the opening A of the pocket is not provided with any separate closing means the pocket being closed, however, automatically when the mitten is closed over the secures both the mitten and the pocket in closed position on the hand.
2. A hand covering comprising an inner glove having separate stalls for the fingers and the thumb and an outer member'in the form of a mitten connected to the wrist of the glove and having its front and back portions above the wrist connected at the edges by closing means such as azslidin g clasp fastener which can bezreleased to enable these portions to be 'rolledpr folded back to form a cuff and so to expose the whole of the the sport'may make ordinary pockets unsafe for the retention of articles.
ily accessibleirrespective of whatclothingisbe- Thus the present vention provides a pocket which is not only read:
inner glove except the wrist, characterized by a- "pocket formed in the inner wall of the outer member or mitten with the opening of the pocket lyingwith-in-themitten when closed over the ining worn in addition to the hand ncovering, but 7 also completely safe against risk of itsgcontents being lost when the mitten is in the closed posi-.
tion which it will normally occupy for warmth.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: 1. -A' hand covering comprising an inner-glove having separate stalls for the fingers and the thumb and an outer member inthe form of a mitten connected to the Wrist of the glove and having its front and back portions above-the wrist connected at the edges'by closing meanssuc'h-as a sliding clasp fastener which can "be released 'to. enable these portions 'to be rolled or' folded'ba'ck to form a cuff and so'to-expose the'who'le of the inner glove "except the wrist, characterized by a pocket 'formedlinthe inner wall of therouter member or mitten lying 'adjacent'to the palm .of the inner glove with the opening of the. pocket lying within "the mitten adjacent the .end th'ereof remote from the wrist when closed over theinner gloveandsecured on all sides thereby, said pocket being exposed on the frontof the wrist when the outer member is lfolded ibaek inlcuff form for convenience of access whereby asingle fastener '1 single fastener secures both the mitten and ner .gloveand secured on all sides thereby, said pocket-being exposed on the wrist when the outer member is folded back in cufi form whereby a pocket in closed positionon the hand.
3. A hand covering =as claimed in :claim 2,
wherein the opening of the pocket is near the,
tipof the mitten beyond the end .of the -.thumb stall in closed position.
