Description

Dec. 27, 1949 F. TANNER ROLL CLEANING DEVICE FOR ROLLER MILLS Filed May 18, 1948 Patented Dec. 27, 1949 7 ROLL CLEANING DEVICE FOR- ROLLER IVHLLS Fritz Tanner, St. Gall, Switzerland, assignor to Gebriider Biihler, Uzwil, Switzerland Application May 18, 1948, Serial No. 27,697 In Switzerland May 22, 1947 3 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in delivery-clearing devices on roller-mills for grain and seeds, and the main object of my improvement is to prevent the goods from leaving the crushing gap in the form of small laminae and from sticking in patches to the rollers after having passed through the crushing-gap.
A number of delivery clearing-devices on roller-mills have become known in the prior art, which devices aim to break up or disintegrate the patches of goods sticking to the rollers when grinding parts of various grains and seeds. The ground goods in such prior devices either are collected in greater quantities, after having passed the rollers, by means of special arrangements, or the said devices are built with a view of subdividing the ground goods, upon delivery from the crushing-gap, into two fine streams without collecting the goods. In the first-mentioned type of such prior devices, relatively large rubbing-faces are set up between the rollers and the goods, whereby not only much grindingfiour or dust is produced, but also the rollers and the goods are excessively heated. n the other hand, one has not succeeded in practice-without collecting the goods as set forth-in so mounting the knife-beams, rigidly or resiliently, as to prevent their seizing. Thus, excessive pressures and, consequently, an undesirable excessive heating of the goods always are set up.
Such disadvantages and drawbacks shall be eliminated by the present invention by so adapting a mill beam immediately behind the rollergap, adjustably and resiliently, that only a small goods collecting-space is formed intermediate of the rollers and said beam, and that, further, a passage for a goods-stream each is formed. on either side of said beam. The goods in said space then are detained to such an extent only as to remain loose and to be continuously renewed therein in operation.
One form of invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a cross-sectional view through the rollers and a clearing-device on line 1-1 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 2 a diagonal section on line II-II of Fig. 1.
The grinding-rollers of a conventional rollermill are designated by I and 2, and the goods 3 are ground intermediate thereof. A mill beam 5 is disposed back of the crushing-gap 4 and is from 3 to 15 millimeters thick, thus forming a relatively small collecting-space 6 for the ground goods. The latter is detained in said space, and
then delivered in two streams I and 8 disposed on either side of beam 5. The latter, at the two ends of the rollers I and 2, is supported on two set-screws 9 and, at its rear end on one arm of a rockable bell-crank lever Ill pivoted to the lateral standards of the roller-mill. The beam 5 at one end is provided with a rear knife-edge, which is received in a notch I2 of the abuttingarm of bell-crank I0, whilst at the other end it abuts against a face I3 of said arm, such face being indicated by a dotted line. The other arm of bell-crank I0 is biased by a helical spring I4, the other end of which is secured to a second set-screw I5. By adjusting the latter the tension of spring I4 may be regulated. The latter tends to pull bell-crank lever I0 up against two stopscrews I6 (one at each end of the mill frame) which are so set that the edges of beam 5 adjacent the rollers I, 2 are equally spaced over their entire length, from the said rollers, thus affording substantially equal delivery-gaps for the goodsstreams I and 8. Due to the resilience of bellcrank I 0, the ground goods in the collection space 6 are detained to such extent only as to remain loose and to be continuously replenished in operation.
I claim:
1. A device on roller-mills for grains and seeds adapted to prevent the goods from leaving the crushing gap in the shape of small laminas and from sticking in patches to the rollers, comprising a mill beam loosely mounted to the rear of the crushing-gap between the rollers and extending over the entire length of the latter, the forward edge of said beam projecting upwardly into said gap so as to leave a comparatively small space between said gap and rollers and a delivery-gap on each flank of said edge between the rear end of said space and said rollers, springloaded rockable abutting-means for the two lateral rear ends of said beam, a set-screw at each lateral end of said beam for freely supporting the latter on its Web, and an adjustable stopscrew acting on each said abutting-means for adjusting the throw of the latter; the whole in such combination as to permit to detain the ground goods in the said space in loose condition and to continuously replenish same in operation.
2. A delivery clearing-device on roller-mills as set out in claim 1, and in which the two lateral ends of the mill beam are adapted as knifeedges which abut against the said abuttingmeans.
3. A delivery clearing-device on rolleremills as 3 set out in claim 1, and in which the mill-beam Number forward edge which co-operates with the said 314,278 space has a thickness of from three to fifteen 691,582 millimeters. 1,144,802 FRITZ TANNER. 5 1,729,515 1,930,873 REFERENCES CITED 2,194,511 The following references are of record in the file of this patent: v
