UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FELIX KIVI, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
OVERALLS.
SPECIFICATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 249,187, dated November 8, 1881. Application filed March 17, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, FELIX KIVI, of the city and county of San Francisco, in the State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overalls; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My improvement in overalls consists in extending the overall material across the front opening, so that it will take the place of the usual fly, and in stitching on an outside or covering piece; also, in extending this outside or covering piece down over and outside of the crotch, so as to form an outside stay for the crotch-seams.
As heretofore constructed the fly was a separate piece stitched inside of the opening, and the buttonholes were made in this stitched piece, so that the strain often caused the stitching to rupture, leaving the overalls in a bad condition.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a front View of the upper part of a pair of overalls to which my improvements are applied. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the fly and crotch-piece.
Let A represent a pair of overalls. Instead of sewing a strip of cloth, b, on the inside ofthe opening to form the fly, I stitch it on the outside, allowing the front portion of the overalls to extend underneath it to form thefly. I then make the button-holes in the edge of the under piece, which, being a part of the front of the overalls, cannotbecoine torn or ruptured by the strain. No strain comes on the outside stitched piece I), so that its stitching is not liable to be ruptured. This piece I), Iextend down over the crotch-seams between the legs and stitch it in place, so that it covers and protects the crotchseams. In order to do this the piece is cut with a bend at the lower end of the front opening, so that it will cross the line of the open ing, and thus form a stay for the bottom of the opening. This bend also brings the crotchpiece e in line with the crotch-seams. By this substantially as and for the purpose set forth;
2. In overalls, the combined covering-piece b and crotch-stay 6, made in one piece and.
stitched on the outside of the front. opening and down over the crotch-seams, substantially as descri bed.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
