Description

(Model) J. L. RYNO & A. W. PORTER.
NECK YOKE CLIP.
No. 249,100. Patented Nov. 1,1881.
a 4);" n. IIIII'IIIIIJI @2268... I). wm
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. RYNO AND ALBERT W. PORTER, OF FARMER VILLAGE, N. Y.
NECK-YOKE CLIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 249,100, dated November 1, 1881,
Application filed July 6, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN L. RYNO and ALBERT W.PoR'rER,ot FarmerVillage,in the county of Seneca, and in the State ofNew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yoke Clips; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in neck-yoke clips; and it has for its objects to provide an improved means whereby the strain of the leather will be mainly upon the jaws of the clip, thus relieving the rivets, as more fully hereinafter specified. These objects I attain by the devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation, showing our improved clip attached to the yoke. Fig. 2 represents a transverse sectional View, showing our improvement; and Fig. 3 represents a sectional view of a modification of our invention.
The letter A indicates a metallic clip, which encircles the neck-yoke B'in the usual manner. The said clip has its edges, between which the leather 0 is confined, so bent as to form a wedgesha-ped cavity for the reception of said leather. The leather atits upper edge, where itis held between the said edges,is made ofwedge shape, conformingto the shape of the cavity, or is provided with wedges D at each side, or with a (Model.)
central wedge, as indicated in the modification illustrated by Fig. 3 of the drawings.
The letter E indicates the rivets or bolts, which pass through the clip and the leatherin the usual manner.
It will beperceived that as above constructed any longitudinal strain will produce a lateral strain upon the sides of the clip, thus relieving the screws of all direct strain which would tend to break them, the strain being transferred by the tendency of the jaws to separatelongitudinally to the rivets,it' at all, in the direction of their greatest strength.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A neck-yoke clip constructed of metal or other suitable material, and formed with a wedge-shaped cavity between its edges for the reception of the leather, which is formed with a corresponding wedge-shaped edge, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In combination with a clip provided with a wedge-shaped cavity between its edges, the leather provided with a wedge or wedges at its upper end, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures, in presence of two witnesses, this 27th day of June, 1881.
