SLEIGH.

N. PETERS.
Uwrrao STATES PATENT Orrrcea J. O. FRIEDRICH PAGEL, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
SLEIGH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 248,341, dated October 18, 1881.
Application filed August- 9, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J.C.FRIEDRICH PAGEL, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Sleighs, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of this invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of sleighs of that class denominated swell-body cutters, and the invention consistsin the peculiarconstruction, arrangement, and combinations of the parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a plan view, from the bottom, of the rear portion of the body.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents a strip or piece oftimber cut into the desired form, and bent into shape so as to form the back a and bottom I) and body-rave 0, formed and bent t'rom one piece, to the front end of which is secured the dash B.
0 represents the broad arms, which are formed and bent from one piece of wood, being cut away to form the bead d at the back.
(No model.)
D represents the lower arm-rails, which are secured to place in the ordinary way to the rave c and broad arm.
E represents the arm-panels, surmounted by the top arm-rail, F. The panels E and those between the rail D and bottom I) are insertel in the ordinary manner.
By this construction and arrangement of parts I construct a sleigh which is much stronger than those wherein the back and bottom are in separate pieces, and yet which is cheaper to build.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. A sleigh wherein the back, bottom, and body-raves are formed from one continuous piece, A, substantially as set forth.
2. A sleigh wherein the back, bottom, and body-raves are formed from one piece, in com bination with the broad arms 0, also formed from one piece, sub-tantiall y-' as specified.
That the above is my invention I hereby atfix my signature this 20th day of July, 1881.
J. U. FRIEDRICH PAGEL.
In presence of- H. S. SPRAGUE, E. SoULLY.
