IMPROVEMENT lN SLEIGHS.

Figure 1 represents a side view, Fig. 2 a bottom view, and Fig. 3 a front View, of my improved sled.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. My invention relates to an improved sled that is made without tenons, mortises,or joints,
in a light, neat, and strong manner; and it consists of a supporting-frame with runners and braces, made of one piece of wood or metal, and attached to the seat.
In the drawing, A represents the seat, and B the supporting-frame of my improved sled. The frame B is bent, of one piece of suitable material, symmetrically to the longitudinal axis of the sled, and attached securely to the front and rear parts of the seat. Frame B may be made of wood or metal, being first bent in the center into a semicircular curve, which forms the upward-extending front part a, and then backward; parallel to the seat to form the runners b. The runners are bent up at their rear ends toward the seat, and then by a side twist toward the center of the seat and forward to the front of the same, and to the curved front part of the frame, forming nearly diagonal braces at the bottom of the seat. The diagonal bottom braces are symmetrical to each other, and are riveted together at their point of connection, or made to cross each other, the front ends of the braces being also riveted to the curved front part of the supporting-frame. The runners and bottom braces have a certain degree of elasticity, and may be further strengthened by an additional brace in the middle.
The sled construction is simple and durable, and also applicable to sleighs and cutters.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent An improved sled, composed of a seat with supporting-frame attached thereto, and made of curved front part, side runners, and curved bottom braces, bent of one piece, substantially as specified.
