5 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in head apparel.
Head apparel, including bathing caps and hats of variant types, usually of one piece construction, as heretofore proposed and in present use, are positioned on the head by movement downwardly relative to the hair of the head of the wearer. As a result, the free strands of the wearers hair adjacent the perimetric hairline remain or are displaced downwardly when such prior or present head apparel is in final position on the wearers head. To dispose such projecting hair strands within such head apparel, it is necessary to tuck them under, an operation causing inconvenience and frequently but partially successful, particularly in regard to such free strands at the back of the head.
Contrary to such prior and present head apparel, embodiments of my invention are formed of two members, one member of which is usually in the form of a band, and desirably of resilient nature, and in the operation of placing my head apparel upon the head such band member is first brought completely over the head, and then moved upwardly, in which upward movement the free strands of the hair of the head of the wearer extending beyond the perimetric hairline are automatically moved inwardly of such hairline; upon final positioning of such band member, namely locating the lower edge of the band member at or adjacent such hairline, all strands of the hair of the wearer are brought and secured within the relatively wide expanse of the band member. The central portion of the hair of the head of the wearer may be covered by a supplemental crown member, serving as a closure member to cover the central portion of the hair of the head of the wearer. Such closure member has a shape conforming to the style of coiffure of the wearer and accordingly is of the variant formation, ranging from a simple segment of a sphere to segments of geometrical configuration and having depths corresponding to the height of the coiffure.
Such closure member may be permanently partially attached to the inner periphery of the band member or may be a separate part and attached to the band member by suitable detachable fastening means of such character as may be preferred.
Further features and objects of the invention will be more fully understood from the following detailed description and the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is an illustrative perspective side view of a preferred embodiment of the invention, comprising a partially attached supplemental member, showing an initial stage of the procedure in applying my head apparel to the head of a wearer.
Fig. 2 is an illustrative perspective view similar to Fig. 1, and showing a later and intermediate stage of the procedure.
Fig. 3 is an illustrative perspective rear view of the embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2, showing the band member applied to a wearers head and the partially attached supplemental crown member in open position.
Fig. 4 is an illustrative perspective side view of the embodiment of Figs. 1, 2 and 3, showing the head apparel fully applied to the head of the wearer, the partially attached supplemental member being fully attached to the band member.
Fig. 5 is an illustrative perspective rear view of head apparel as it appears in Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is an illustrative perspective side View of another embodiment of the invention, comprising a partially attached supplemental member, shown in its open position.
Fig. 7 is an illustrative perspective view of the embodiment of Fig. 6, and showing the supplemental member in its closed position.
Fig. 8 is an illustrative perspective side view of another embodiment of the invention, comprising a wholly detachable supplemental member, indicating such supplemental member placed above the head of the wearer, preliminary to being attached to the band member.
Fig. 9 is an illustrative perspective side View of the embodiment of Fig. 8, showing the supplemental member fully attached to the band member.
Referring to the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 through 5, l0 designates generally the head apparel. This embodiment comprises the band member which is designated l I and the supplemental crown member !2. In this embodiment the supplemental member I2 is partially attached to the band member I I along the line of connection indicated by the dash line is in Figs. 1 and 4, which extends around the front of the head apparel from side to side thereof as indicated by the terminal points I4, l l,Fig. 3. Such supplemental member I2 is arranged to be fully attached to the band member ll, as by suitable detachable attachment elements, such as two-part snap fasteners, two such two-part snap fasteners being indicated in Figs. 1 through 5. The indicated two-part snap fastener elements are respectively designated I5, l5a.
The above described embodiment is applied to the wearers head indicated generally by [-5 as by initially placing the rear portion of the band member I l at or about the rear of the head, as illustrated in Fig. 1, and moving the front portion of the band member over the head and I the entirety of the head apparel about the neck,
the hair of the head of the wearer, until the,
the wearer to protrude therethrough. After such procedure, as shown in Fig. 4, the supplemental member I2 is fully attached to the bandmeme.
ber II by closing the snap fasteners.
Preferably, the back lower margin iZaoi the supplemental member l2 overlapsithezupper outer margin of the band member about the opening I I1, whereby water or other foreign material is shed over the jointure between the supplemental member and the band member.
The embodimentillustrated inFigs. 6 and 7 is generally similar to that of the preceding embodiment with respect to -the-construction of the band membenandlikewise is designated ii. The supplementalmembendesignated it, of the embodiment shown :in Figspfi and 'l, diflerswith respect to the supplemental member 52 of the above described embodiment in respect to its contour to'accommodate aihigher type of-coifiure of the wearer asindiaated at l9 ascompared with the coifiure'of the wea-rer as indicated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. Th'e 'supplemental member 48 of the embodiments shownainFigs-fiand- 7, also. is provided witha relativelyawider rim-portion Eta as compared with the=rim portion E la of the supplementalmember [1 f the preceding embodiment. Both. embodiments :include'the completion of the closing of the-supplemental member with respect to the bandme'mber, as by the employment of two-partisnap fasteners #5, 15a, or equivalent disconnectible-Iconnecting means.
Theembodimentillustratedwin Figs. 8 and 9 comprisesa supplementalcmember, designated 125i; which' is .wholly'separable with-frespect to the band member ll. Pu'rsuantto thisembcdiment, the "band member .may: be of one width,- such as in the form.otaiuniformband. The supplemental member may baattached =to :the-band member, after the band member "has been positioned upon the head ofL-thei.wearerzas by the procedure illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, whereafter thelsupplemental. member-:Zliiis affixed to the band member as by. lmeansof 1snap fasteners indicatedat l5, a, four'being; indicated intl igssii and 9,0r
ber at the margin of-the partial attachment of the supplemental member to' the band member. In the types of the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 8 and 9 the material of-the bandmember is of yieldable, and preferablyofresilient-nature,- as inthe embodiments of-Fig'Snl through-5 and Figs. 6 and 7, and the material-of the supplemental member may be selected-as may be-preferred by the user. Inany-eventthe supplemen' tal crown member -l2 overlaps-- the upper outer margin of the resilient band member-and extendsdownwardly overa part only-of the band member.
The degree of flexibility or yieldability or re siliency of the material of the band member and the commensurate peripheral dimension of the band member may be selected, to yield proper fit of the-head apparel iorra range of head sizes, consistent with comfort to'the wearer.
I claim: 1.
